Series 11 News & Spoilers

Point is, Doctor Who is a prime example of a show basically milking every story possible dry out of any existing story or concept. Its not impossible to find stories to tell with a new Doctor, so I don't trust that quote in any case.

Especially since it's just the latest mutation of the Moffat qote attributed to this team by Starburst, about having exhausted all the ideas about Christmas stories thathe could think of. Similarly the "five or six episodes" thing derives from the story that that was the condition Tilda Swindon would have put on accepting the role (which, some say, she was offered)

I've said before, and will again, it's fascinating to see how these rumours evolve and shift, bent to suit the propagandaof the week's haters.

I disagree. Big Finish used the character with great effect in multiple stories.

And without relying on Candy Crush.

I was making a joke based entirely on the original. ;) and based in the usurping of ‘traditional’ games with mobile gaming.

Tbh I don’t think we are reuse and recycle yet.
Yet.

How many shows make it to 11 seasons plus specials and 15 years on the air? Is it a shame there's going to be a gap? Yeah, sure. Is it worth it if we get good episodes and the show continues? Up to you, I suppose. And yes, I think this season was good, better than it has been in ages, so I'm willing to wait for more.

I'm fairly certain that the Beeb doesn't owe you a series of Doctor Who on a schedule that works for you. We've had year-long gaps before and decades between Baker and Ecclestone. We'll survive.

Erm...what does Baker to eccleston have to do with the price of eggs?

A gap after a year on the job does look shoddy, whatever way you cut it. Previous gaps didn’t occur after a new team or a new Doctors first year out the gate, and after the previous team did an extra year to ensure there was a series and a Christmas special...well, it makes the current set up seem less than enthusiastic about the job.
Moffat - gives up a deal working for Spielberg, works extra years on the job.
Chibnall - has to be persuaded to come do it, doesn’t want to start straight away, has a gap after his first season.

Now I know the show is supposed to be in production sharpish in the new year, but the basic isn’t exactly awe inspiring is it.

Complete with people jumping to conclusions with lots of anger and bluster. ;)

I am waiting for U turns. We have already had rumours turning out to be truth, and things people previously worked for being overturned....New Years special. Because no one is ever out on New Year’s Day, What with sales and whatnot.....

I'm sorry about my outburst, but there is no real reason why there should be such a delay. How exactly was RTD able to do it, with two spin-offs going at the same time? I don't buy it.

If the BBC wants to cancel the show, just do it. It would be better to do that then to do 12 episodes every two years, which is pathetic even by British TV standards. I don't even really want to see any more Chibnail stuff anyway, but at this rate if he does as many series as RTD it will be 8+ years to do 4ish series.

Actually it's completely normal as you'd know if you lived here, read the about 100 posts explaining that or simply kept up with British series.

Series 12 is planned and there'll likely be a 13 after it. But I guess that means about another 5 years of you doing this...

You get all the likes for today.
I know we Americans think we know how it "should be done" when it comes to Entertainment, but... it's an opinion. And our business models are different.

If the BBC wants to cancel the show, just do it.

Why would they want to cancel a show where the ratings are UP?

So, series 12 will be back... in 2020.

What the fuck?! FUCK!! Fuck you, BBC. Fuck. You!!!

Yeah, the long gap between seasons is very weird to me. Maybe it's just how the Brits do TV? Maybe they want to prevent burn out by giving the production staff a more relaxed work schedule? Or maybe TPTB want to strech things out to make it look like Doctor Who is lasting longer? But the long gap annoys me because I want more Doctor Who not less. When I like a show, I don't want to have to wait over a year to get new episodes. Plus, the long gap can't be good for ratings because people will forget about the show each season. It totally kills any momentum the show may have built up each season.
