Series 11 News & Spoilers

I'm beginning to think RTD was the exception rather than the rule.
I do think that's true. I also think it's becoming too difficult for them to continue with the showrunner model they have. It's too much to expect that a single person will have mastered both the production side and the write a large portion of the scripts for a complex show like DW. That's no fault of anyone, just that it's almost impossible to do! Those are two very different and very specialized skills. Get two different people to do them!

And most British TV shows don't work that way and most TV shows don't be the budget to throw at writers rooms and extended schedules like American shows.
I don't know. I'm not an expert at British TV. But, I do know that the Classic Series managed it with a much smaller budget!

If the BBC wants to cancel the show, just do it. It would be better to do that then to do 12 episodes every two years, which is pathetic even by British TV standards. I don't even really want to see any more Chibnail stuff anyway, but at this rate if he does as many series as RTD it will be 8+ years to do 4ish series.

The rumour about Chibbers being out of ideas is a misread of a Moffatt quote. What's your excuse?

A handful of eps followed by a year off? Not a single new show in 2019? Not one special?
The show will have all but faded from the public's consciousness by the time it's supposed to return.
Anyone want to start taking bets on wether this show comes back at all?

There is a 2019 special, on New Year's Day.

I don't know, Sherlock did fine only doing three episodes every two to three years.
Anyone want to start taking bets on wether this show comes back at all?
If there was a possibility of the show not coming back, they wouldn't start filming next month.

Gee. If only there some sort of job or service that someone could provide that could, hear me out, that could tell people about a show or shampoo. Maybe this service could get people excited. Like, "hey everybody, remember that sandwich you liked, well, it's coming back."

Let's call them commercials. OH, I know. We could call it advertisement!

I bet someone could make a lot of money doing something like that. Getting people excited about stuff.

Yeah, the long gap between seasons is very weird to me. Maybe it's just how the Brits do TV? Maybe they want to prevent burn out by giving the production staff a more relaxed work schedule? Or maybe TPTB want to strech things out to make it look like Doctor Who is lasting longer? But the long gap annoys me because I want more Doctor Who not less. When I like a show, I don't want to have to wait over a year to get new episodes. Plus, the long gap can't be good for ratings because people will forget about the show each season. It totally kills any momentum the show may have built up each season.

does seem that that with Doctor Who at least, that they complete production before the first episode airs where as the U.S shows I believe ramp up production over the summer and are still producing new episodes as those in the can already go to air.

And l believe the shooting schedule for Doctor Who is about 9 months.

Btw does anyone know if they film the new series single camera or multi (something which can impact production times).

multi camera implies a static set, something like a sitcom doesn't it?

no - they use multi-camera during the classic series that allowed continuous filming and the director could take shots from the different camera. In comparison with single camera they shoot a scene, stop and reset to shoot it from a different angle (such as reaction shot).

That's basically how a sitcom in the US does it as well.

The challenge of that sort of setup--and why it's no longer used for dramas, is lighting. You have to broadly light the set so from two or three camera positions it looks good. That's why Classic Who looked the way it did in the studio, like a sitcom.

With a single camera you are not only moving the camera, but, you are also readjusting lights, that's why set ups take so long.

Much like humans, often a Dalek's New Year's resolution will be to lose weight...

Someone could.
But not the BBC.....

Well, it was inevitable, but... Ian Levine has finally shared his thoughts on series 11.

For the last ten weeks I have kept my thoughts about the current Doctor Who totally private.
I now feel it's time to speak at last.
To say I am totally underwhelmed is the understatement of all time.

It was so bland, a forgettable talentless yawn-fest. I can find no better word than “meh" to sum up this drab series. For a brief moment, at first, I thought I liked it, until I got punch drunk from its tedious boring uninspired blandness. The Rosa Parkes episode worked for me, but the rest sent me to sleep by their sheer averageness.

Dire scripts

Boring rubbish overall.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE TOTALLY MAD.

Every longterm fan seems to share my views.

Chibnall, worst writer ever - worst of all time - these were like the first series of Torchwood but worse.

Easily the blandest season finale ever in 55 years.

Plus it took him nearly two years to make a lousy ten episodes.

Now we have no more episode on Christmas day any more.

And looky here - whoop-dee-do - Now there's no series at all in 2019 at all.

WE’RE FUCKED EVERY WAY WE TURN.

A DISGRACE. JNT was better. WAY WAY BETTER.

When I compare this crap to "Blink" or to "Journeys End" I want to cry.

People did not appreciate Russell T. Davies or Steven Moffat enough, and now look what the fuck we ended up with.

START AGAIN BBC. You raped my first love.

Well, I will agree with him, on one thing: I hate, hate, hate that we're gonna have to wait until 2019 for - what? 10 episodes again. Why not 13, or at least 12? Gimme a break.

Otherwise, potentially his funniest post yet. Ah, well - I still liked his Shada.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday. Laughed my ass off.

I guess we just conveniently ignore the fact he spent that past year and a half since Whittaker's casting was announced promising he'll never watch a show with a female lead? Of course, did anyone even believe him to begin with?

Oh, GAWD. What a hysterical fan boy. I swear to god, I LOATHE anyone who compares a show they don't like to RAPE. Any opinion that includes that utter nonsense should be immediately disregarded.

The best part: "Every longterm fan seems to share my views." :guffaw:

Let's be honest here: The only way I would've been shocked by what he said about this season is if he raved all about it.

I swear to god, I LOATHE anyone who compares a show they don't like to RAPE. Any opinion that includes that utter nonsense should be immediately disregarded.
You beat me to it. I fucking hate that shit.
