Series 10 News Thread (Spoilers, naturally)

Let the speculation commence as to whether he's a Time Lord...

"He's got a 'the' in front of his title, he must be!"

So we've had

The Lodger
The Landlord

When do you think we'll get "The Tennant" ;)

When do you think we'll get "The Tennant" ;)
The old joke I often make, have a show or movie or whatever with characters named "David the Tennant," "Tom the Baker," "Colin the Baker" and even "Matt the Smith." I've even thought of people discussing this idea and then someone completely oblivious suggests something like "Christopher the Eccleston" which meets with blank stares and polite throat clearing to get back on topic.

David Suchet, Poirot himself, has been cast as a character called "The Landlord"
Fantastic! The quintessential Poirot. :D

Hugh Fraser has made a lot of appearances in Big Finish's Doctor Who audio plays, so maybe he'll show up, too...

Please Captain Jack....Please Captain Jack....Please Captain Jack....Please Captain Jack....Please Captain Jack....Please Captain Jack....Please Captain Jack....Please Captain Jack....Please Captain Jack

Yeah, I would love to see him an Capaldi. That would be an interesting dynamic.

I thought Jack and Matt Smith would've been fun too. Captain Jack would have certainly tried coming on to the "young guy".

Yeah. I could see that, but it's not as appealing to me, as I can see the banter--and it being similar to previous Docs. Whereas, 12... he don't go for banter. And his darker nature up against Captain Jack...

That said: I would be surprised if it happens.

When I was covering Tom's signing tour for his autobiography, there was a shop next to the York bookshop called "Thomas the Baker". I wanted to get a photo of him under the sign, but sadly it was after dark when he arrived.

Now that would have been cool!

I just realized that one year ago today I was in Cardiff, UK, as they were filming the final scenes of "Hell Bent". Today, they're just filming the first batch of episodes for the next one, which won't air until next spring.

*Sigh*

I know we've little right to complain, but dangit British TV schedules do grate the nerves.

So the BBC have given what TV Tropes would call a 'Suspiciously Specific Denial' regarding Vancouver saying, "With regards to Doctor Who filming in Western Canada, I can confirm that this is not true."

So no Captain Jack but over in Toronto the Clone Club are waiting for the call. (I wish.)

Sorry, but they lost me at the bit where they said Captain Jack's return is connected to Tom Baker's scene in Day of the Doctor. That's a bullshit red flag right there.

The only part of that I believe is Moffat's apathy. But then, that isn't really far from the truth as its currently known anyway.

Something tells me Pater Capaldi doesn't "clash" with anyone...everyone adores him. So I don't believe for a second that he and Pearl don't get on. He could leave after series 10, that's not much of a stretch. Of course Moffat is running on fumes at this point, and isn't he doing Sherlock too anyway?

At least Bleeding Cool are honest enough to say it’s probably all BS.

Mackie and Capaldi butting heads. Could be true, she wouldn’t be the first relative unknown to have ideas above her station (is the story about Waterhouse giving acting advice to Richard Todd true btw?) and plenty of decent actors have found their careers derailed because they were difficult. I’ve never heard of anyone having naught but good things to say about working with Capaldi so if there is a problem it has to be at her end. That said it could equally be spurious, maybe she made one comment about a script and it’s been blown out of all proportion, maybe it was a joke taken the wrong way by a member of the crew and maybe it’s just Chinese whispers. If she is trouble then however good she is I’d still expect the BBC to get rid. The show has survived losing Piper, Tennant, Smith, Gillan et al and it will survive losing a companion we haven’t met yet. I guess the only potential issue is that it would mean both ethnic minority companions being jettisoned after a year. Doesn’t she have only a 1 year deal though?

Capaldi leaving. Hardly a surprise if true. However much he loves the role we know it’s tiring even for someone 20 years younger. That said I also wouldn’t be surprised if Chibnall could persuade him to stay for one last year if he could show a new direction, energised scripts etc. I’m less certain on the idea that a new Doctor has been cast. Do we even know when Series 11 is due to start filming? Must be 9 months away at least. That said Olivia Colman is a busy lady so maybe they wanted to tie her down early ;)

Jack? We really do need to see Captain Harkness again, even if it’s just a one off so again this is plausible. Why though? With River we actually had some closure, but Jack’s never even met 12, hell he never met 11, so I do wonder if it’ll be fun but essentially pointless. The Tom Baker scene being referenced again, why? Unless (batshit crazy conspiracy theory ahead!) it’s to explain why 12 is about to regenerate into a previous Doctor!!!

Moffat running on empty. Hardly a surprise, and at least it seems pretty obvious now that, rather than barricading himself into the role of showrunner like a South American dictator, he’s probably wanted out for some time but has been cajoled into staying by the Beeb. I hope this doesn’t affect the quality of the finished product, it’d be nice for him to go out on a bit of a high but if he does have Sherlock as well…

Class renewed. Not surprising, I know series 1 hasn’t aired yet but they must have a good idea of how good it seems and it isn’t unusual for the BBC to commission a second season before the first has aired.

Torchwood. For God’s sake let it die! We’ve had four seasons of this show. One of those seasons was awesome (you know which!) but of the other three we have one that was terrible (the first) one that had a promising central idea that was stretched far beyond its scope to the point where it became both terrible and a mess (S4) and one that was terrible, but knew it was terrible and embraced the camp nature of its terribleness and became oddly enjoyable as a result (S2). Pound for pound it’s never been a great show and I can’t see why the BBC would bring it back, especially if Barrowman wasn’t going to be involved apart from the odd cameo.

Clashes between Mackie and Capaldi - highly doubtful.

Capaldi leaving - 50/50

New Doctor already cast- Ahahahahaha, fuck right off. No.

Moffat tired out - why would we expect otherwise of *anyone* marking time between handing in their notice and actually being gone? Why would it be news?

Class renewed- Probably. That'd be the normal pattern for these things. The first season's success will determine whether there's a third.

Jack cameo- 50/50

Curator scene referenced- wouldn't surprise me, if it's harkened to in some form sooner or later.

BBC Wales pushing for more Crotchwood- heh, doubtful.

More Crotchwood without Jack- not a fucking chance.
