Sequel/Transformers 2: we're in trouble

If that's Orci and Kurtzman's idea of a big blockbuster sequel....

We're in huge trouble.

Transfomers, Revenge of the Fallen. Worst 'big' film this past decade. Awful garbage. Boring, over-long, a giant mess, horrible editing, pathetic acting and script and terrible pacing. That's two and a half hours of my life I'd like back.

Trek 2 could be in trouble. Hopefully it's mostly Bay's fault.

It was directed by Michael Bay. He could take a script written by God (or your choice of deity, except the God of Sha Ka Ree, cuz he sucks) and he could totally screw the pooch with it. Michael Bay likes having complete control over his projects to the point where they just become an explosion fest.

TF2 isn't as bad as some critics make it out to be. Throw in the nature of the franchise, the director, etc. and there's little reason to assume that TF2 is any indicator of what the next Trek film will be like.

I still wouldn't classify it as "bad." Certainly it's better than any other summer blockbuster thus far, save for Star Trek. But yeah ... crapload of dough? Easily.

That's what I'm thinking. Star Trek, down only -4% from last week--see latest B.O. thread. That was spillover from sold-out venues, but that spillover could've gone to see other movies too.

I know, same genre, but still. Now, it would be interesting if repeat business wasn't all that good, and people instead went to see Star Trek just one more time.

The first TRANSFORMERS movie was barely more than a two-hour-long toy commercial to pimp for Hasbro. The old 80s cartoon stood head and shoulders above it for pure enjoyment value. So if this one is a piece of shit I will *not* be surprised in the least.

Meh from what I've heard about the movie in this thread it's still better than the Japanese G1 stuff. Oh and The Unicron triliogy, the Japanese Beast Wars manga, and some of Hasbro's really really bad ideas.

Well, FWIW, being part of what I believe is probably the main age demographic that Transformers targets... I thought the first one was awesome and Revenge of The Fallen was soooo much better. The fight scenes were epic, the story worked just great for me, it had some of the funniest and most awesome lines I've ever heard in a movie, it was so incredibly entertaining. All of my friends who I went with all agreed that the movie was simply amazing. Actually, I saw RoTF at the drive in Wednesday night, and they had Star Trek playing as the second movie so I saw both back to back. And... I, actually, as much as I liked Star Trek, liked Transformers better...

Funniest and most awesome lines in a movie??? Really??? You really want to say that........ and mean it...?? OK fine maybe it was entertaining but the most awesome lines in a movie??? Come on you can't really be serious unless you just haven't seen any quality films..... Funniest??? I'm sure Spinal Tap was much much funnier than this movie.

I haven't seen TF2 yet (not sure if I will on the big screen) but I was over at AICN reading fat Harry's review.
On the subject of who wrote what etc etc here's a bit of relevant info

I very much suspect that Orci & Kurtzman created the overall storyline, but then Ehren Kruger came in with the Twins and most of the SHIT in this film.
I say this, because I once experienced first hand the rancid idiotic fumblings on Ehren Kruger on JOHN CARTER OF MARS - who single handedly managed to shit on Burroughs in a way I though unthinkable.
And cost us untold fortunes in rewrites and changes. And yes, I've never been more frustrated as when the studio forced that hack upon us.
But I will say that Mudflap and Skids and Jolt read just like some of the unnecessary bullshit that I've read from Kruger before.

Two weeks before the strike, Alex and Ehren and I generated a 20 page story outline together, and then Michael used it during the strike to prep the action and to develop some of the things he wanted into more of a 60 page scriptment.

Didn't we hear this sort of stuff before Trek XI became a hit? Umm lets wait till they write the follow up to worry about it.

Also a director is not an incidental part of making a film I would say that's the important factor between Transformers and Star Trek - and I liked Transformers as well, though it is very Micheal Bay.

I wouldn't mind your choices as they would be much better candidates than the current writers slated to do the sequel. It would also be great to have an extremely talented novelist with some theatre background, and who knows a thing or two about Star Trek, to come up with an innovative storyline along with better developed characters. A Shakespearean style Trek is what I'm referring to, but I don't know if the cast of Star Trek XI would be able to pull off such complex dialogues and act natural and accordingly to script demands. I loved how the original cast of the 1960's were able to pull this off, since they came from prestigious theatre schools in the era substantive entertainment, and so they usually had the right material to work it. The writers of their time were after all, much talented than what we have in store today, unfortunately for our generation.
