It's clear that @Quantum21 doesn't know what they're talking about and are confusing their opinions for facts, so it's kind of pointless to continue discussing it.

Yes. It's ready made. They can tweak some scripts. Could be another tv movie too though. Should get lots of viewers even if some complain. P+only cares that it was viewed.

I'm really interested in knowing how Kurtzman is going to react to all the negative reviews. Because the concept of TV movies isn't necessarily bad; it's just that the first one they tried was such a dud that it might mar them from making more.

They're not going to continue making something that people are vocal about their disdain for. And people stream stuff all the time that gets cancelled, whether good or bad. So just saying 'people stream' is no indication of success.
And you better believe Kurtman will be reading reviews, and making decisions based on those reviews.

Everything I said is correct. The only contention is that Osunsanmi isn't going to say the one sentence that this was a planned pilot. He's come partway and said yes we can do more if it does well. He hints at there being more info than that (cant say, wink), and that it can be in the form of movies, but the fact remains it fulfills the function I'm describing of a backdoor pilot.
At some point studio semantics come into play and maybe legalities but...its a backdoor pilot.

Why would they stop producing movies if S31 does badly?
They might not produce any more S31 films, but that shouldn't preclude them from producing streaming movies PERIOD.
I can buy that they hoped there would be enough interest for more Section 31 films, but there's zero chance this was made to pilot a series. After all, this was explicitly changed from a series to a feature because Michelle Yeoh's schedule had become too busy to commit to TV.
Doing badly means only one thing: not being streamed. The other metrics are not important to P+.
Right - the short answer is that it won't stop anything. Like @Dukhat said, one-off tele-movies have been around forever. TOS Battlestar Galactica made it an art form when Glen Larson started assembling multiple existing episodes into larger tele-movies, allowing viewers to see the whole story in one sitting, instead of having to wait several weeks at a time to see how a serialized sub-story of the greater series pans out. It is by no means a new concept, just a new concept for Trek. I find it totally feasible and might help expand the universe without suffering from franchise fatigue.
This is actively fucking insane. That is not how any studio - a money-making entity - operates. Especially one as financially-troubled as Paramount.
Paramount will be merged in 2025. Its debts will be paid. The only division in Paramount Global that makes money is P+. It increases its revenue and subscribers every year.
