I liked S31 when DS9 first introduced us to them. But this, or any other iteration of them in the Kurtzman era, bear little resemblance to the original concept.

The purpose of a movie trailer is to persuade me to watch the film. Both trailers have abjectly failed to garner my interest. In fact, they've had the opposite effect. So that's that, I guess.

So...see you on debut day? ;)

I am only going to watch the Section 31 TV event movie because I adore Michelle Yeoh, also, there are lots of references to past Star Trek series and movies with cameos from familiar alien species. :adore:

I think it is great that Star Trek is evolving with the audience. I accept that my Star Trek may not be the Star Trek that today's audience wants, and that's OK. I didn't love Disco. I like SNW but I do miss the round the table problem solving episodes. SNW has that from time to time, and it was a staple of the Berman era shows.

That said,

This S31 movie looks terrible. Evolution of the Star Trek concept is one thing. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater is another entirely.

One recent article I read described the success of SF works to be conveying a sense that the world continues on outside of the camera lens. For me, Section 31 does exactly that. It says to me that the perfectionistic world sometimes portrayed isn't always experienced by everyone. Nor is everyone the hero.

It's an intriguing prospect, if not traditional Star Trek. Not sure why that's a bad thing.

Somehow I never liked the Section 31 guys in the series they showed up so far.
So it maybe hard to like them now....

To this day I was never under the impression that I was supposed to like, cheer these people on or find them laudable.

So, going in to this film not liking them is pretty much what I expect.
So why should I watch a movie when I don't like the characters?

Perhaps "Not Liking the Characters" was/is the actual goal of the shows writers.
Not every villain is meant to be "likeable".

One could suppose that the Georgiou character may be the exception with this new Trek movie.

So why should I watch a movie when I don't like the characters?
You shouldn't.

I don't always like characters in a show or book. I've had that with several characters. The intrigue, for me at least, is the story and what might unfold. But, I don't like the characters. So, the story better be engaging.
