Just even showing anyone of that species already is a small-universe syndrome since Bele and Lokai were previously established as the only survivors. Now they have to retcon that someone else survived.

We don't know he's a Cheron. His face is black on his right side but his right shoulder is white.

I have a suspicion that the reaction to this will be more positive here than the reaction will be elsewhere.

Not saying there won't be negativity here, but this place has really surprised me in the short time I've been here.

After reading your comment, I took a peek at the /startrek subreddit - notorious for its enforced-positive bias and heavy-handed modding (was temp. banned on a few occasions for the most innocuous criticisms / jabs). I had a look at the trailer thread and Jesus Christ, it was absolutely savaged. One commenter mentioned they were shocked the mods were allowing the pile-on (ditto!).

Even the insufferable Trekmovie.com comments section (someone there doesn't like me as not a single post I attempted to make ever made it through review, lol), is leaning negative.

As far as this place - yes - there are a handful of posters who will defend almost anything with Star Trek slapped on it, but I'd hazard a guess the reaction will lean negative here too.

You've also got to remember there's a lot of apathy / disinterest. I'd say most regular posters who originally came here to discuss Trek spend more time discussing other subjects and can't be bothered with gatekeeping.

I was curious so I checked it out for myself and... it's exactly as advertised. On Reddit, on Trekmovie, on YouTube.

Funnily enough, I saw a few comments from people who actually were excited for a Section 31 story, but were disappointed that the trailer didn't depict anything like the organisation they saw in DS9.

YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, Trekmovie...it's all the same. People who either can't type using proper sentences, people who have no clue about anything, people who just want to hate on everything, and every once in awhile, someone who knows what they're talking about and can state their legitimate criticisms in an articulate way.

I'll take the TrekBBS over that shit.

I seem to recall reading, and I'll be damned if I can remember where I read it or who said it, but if I recall correctly, this movie will be a narrative transition between the Section 31 of Discovery and the Section 31 of DS9.

I remember that too, but I have no idea where I saw it.

It's funny people can struggle with the idea of a civil war on one planet (when the species has spaceflight ability) leaving more than one survivor, but in the 2009 movie when Vulcan was destroyed the idea of only 10,000 surviving Vulcans was considered absurdly low.

The movie looks awful. A disgrace to Trek. A shameful alteration to the spirit of Trek. Of course I will watch it when it comes out. Plus likely see it a double digit number of times in later viewings! :)

I just saw the preview short version for the first time before lower decks. Effective pitch. Had a real "random cool thing I think I'll watch next time I'm browsing around Paramount Plus." I think that's what they're going for
