Okay, good.
What are we supposed to judge it on other than that?
You mean judge the trailer, or judge the movie? Because there's no movie to judge yet.
Okay, good.

Recently 40 and white. This trailer was 100% not aimed at 40something white men and in this thread, it really shows.
It's not a hard journey.Best of luck on your journey.![]()
Which is not promising at all.The more I think about it...
This is just a terrible trailer. One of the worst I've seen. My expectations for the production have been dutifully lowered here, but ultimately, it's a bad trailer that might very well be making a decent movie look worse than it is.
Yikes.
I had no expectations on what this would or would not be.
I like it, because it's so different. It's Star Trek, but different than regular Star Trek.
I'm not a fan of the attempts that Discovery made repeatedly to rehabilitate MU Georgiou. I'm also not a fan of the attempts post DS9 to retcon Section 31 from an evil conspiracy within the heart of the Federation that subverts its values, to "hard men doing hard things."
Before seeing anything, these were my main grievances with this show/movie.
I actually do like the cheesy "non Star Trek" look - all the dyed hairs, crazy costumes, weird lightning - why not?
However, after watching the trailer, I have the fear that this group of characters aren't actually part of the story, but "just there", assembled because this was once a tv show that needed a full cast, and now will actually distract/bog down the plot.
No matter how much the trailer tried to give the "Suicide Squad/GotG" vibe, it really feels more like a tv pilot episodes re-cut.
To be fair... This is exactly what every single piece of live-action Star Trek is now since the JJ Abrams reboot....so we ended up with a ragtag band of misfits who blow shit up and aren't even trying to be clandestine.
Same, really. I don't "hate watch" anything. It's not a hard journey.
If I'm not entertained I move on.
Mirror Georgiou is basically a caricature. The trailer was pretty bad. They keep hyping she's an Academy Award winning actress but then have her overact as a character who makes Jar Jar Binks seem nuanced in comparison.I'll see it once just to check it out. Apart from that, it was definitely the thing I'm looking forward to least out of the SDCC panel. Generic action, looks like Trek's answer to the Suicide Squad, and I'm still irked by the franchise continuing to rehabilitate a genocidal dictator.
