The purpose of a trailer is to get people excited to see something. This didn't do that for me. The trailer was awful IMO. Movie could be good. I have seen bad trailers that ended being good movies. But since I was never a fan of this main character or how S31 was portrayed on Discovery , I'm not holding my breath. I will give it a shot though.

Well, can't tell much from the teaser. It could be good.

I was on full Monster Maroon watch throughout.

Stacy Slater's bruvvah gets around these days. (One for 30+ Brits there)

Exactly. A trailer is purpose-built to try and entice someone into watching the product. The movie might be good, but this trailer makes it look absolutely awful.

As always, I'll judge the final product when the time comes. For now, I'll just judge the only thing we have. :)

Well, it's not a trailer in so much that it is a teaser. So quick shots and quips, nothing about plot or anything. We'll probably get something more in a month or two, perhaps a bit sooner.
I'm definitely watching this, since I am always curious about new Star Trek, but I'm not super excited or anything.

Put Star Trek and generic Netflix misfit team-up movies together and you get that trailer.

Like Star Trek and something like Army Of The Dead had a baby

I had no expectations on what this would or would not be.

I like it, because it's so different. It's Star Trek, but different than regular Star Trek.

I like a lot of modern Trek but this trailer does look really terrible. It looks like Suicide Squad and not the good one made by James Gunn. Nothing wrong with escapism. I love the Abrams movies. But this movie doesn't even look like it's pretending to be connected to Trek in anyway. Yet it also doesn't look like it's trying to be original in any substantive way either. It's the same bloated Marvel like over reliance on CGI and snarky characters with zero story.

As with all TEASER trailers, it's just some first look flashy stuff. Same goes for the Marvel teasers, and people give those the same complaints. Then, we'll get an full trailer, with more plot and character moments. When this happens with the MCU trailers, people suddenly go 'oh, this looks way better!!'.

Now, I agree, that this FIRST LOOK WITHOUT CONTEXT doesn't thrill me. But let's see what the full trailer will give us when it drops.

I agree but shouldn't teasers be made to at least spark some interest, as oppose to making people less interested in a show? Also when you dealing with a old property like Trek you got to know that half of your base is going to be old people so you got to give them a little tease as well. Makes sense to toss in something nostalgic and maybe a character/story beat that feels like Trek, then toss in some of the fancy CGI stuff around it.

So should we just not talk about it until then?

 Yes, that's exactly what I ment. Dear Lord....
Ofcourse we can talk about it, but there's already so much judgement of a 90 minute movie based on 2 minutes of out of context material. Let's not twist other people's words, shall we?

Whatever about themes, tones, characters and all that other stuff that is subjective the one thing I can't forgive is how generic it looks.
I don't care what his backstory turns out to be that power armour guy is just utterly stupid looking. I wouldn't be surprised to find out the costume designer for the whole "squad" was an AI generator.

Somehow the show about a dark dangerous group like Section 31 looks more cartoonish than the show created to appeal to kids in "Prodigy." How does that happen?
