Spoilers Secret Invasion grade and discussion

When they formed some of their arms, they apparently came with their accessories too. the Ebony Maw arm had his rings, and Drax's arm had his tattoos lmao.
Damn, I didn't notice that. I did notice that Gravik copied (accidentally or whatever) Maw's "shhh" gesture.

I imagine they kept the rings and tattoos for recognizability reasons.

G'iah turned invisible for a second, whos power was that?

I watched episode 1, found it utterly tedious and have not watched anymore.

Given my reaction to episode 1, is it worth watching the rest of the series?

If you didn't like the first episode, chances are you won't like the rest.

Those of us who did enjoy the first episode have issues with the rest of the show.

Comfortably the worst Disney+ Marvel show and down there with the worst content Marvel Studios have produced.

Fury flies off back to space with his wife even though the Skrulls are now in an even worse position than at the start of the series. What was his arc here? It was bad of him to abandon the Skrulls before but it's fine now?

So the only explanation we get for Fury not finding the Skrulls a new homeworld is just...he couldn't find one? After looking for a few months? But that wasn't even really Fury saying that, just Gi'ah in disugise, so who knows if that's even the real reason. And I don't think it works at all! The Gurdians movies show there's quite a few habitable worlds out there.

It seemed heavily implied that Rhodey's been a Skrull since Civil War, meaning he was a Skrull during the entire Blip, doing all that superhero stuff teaming with Rocket and everything. That seems kind of silly! So he was a Skrull at the start of Endgame when he went to that planet Thanos was a living on? Seems like that would have been a nice place for the Skrulls to settle down...

Why did Sonya hold a gun to Rhodey for like five minutes instead of just shooting him right away to show the President he's a Skrull?

Total waste killing off Maria and Talos for this. When they were talking about the Widow's Veil last week I was kind of expecting a shock reveal that Maria was still alive, but nope. Goodbye Cobie Smulders.

I guess Sharon Carter isn't a Skrull, despite how weird she was acting in Falcon and Winter Soldier.

Sure was nice of the Skrulls to pointlessly keep Ross alive even after his Skrull replacement had been exposed and killed.

Ghost's. I guess they had her DNA because she used to be in S.H.I.E.L.D.

Well, we know Fury is right in that Ritzen will be a one-term president. But to be replaced by Thunderbolt Ross? Who is the MCU worse off with?

Yeahhhhh...that was super weird.

I kept hoping for some kind of explanation for why Fury and Carol didn't find them a homeworld but nothing came. That drove me nutty. And then it was all but forgotten until the last episode when Fury admits he failed on that count...but doesn't even try to explain why he failed. Ugh.

I get why people keep coming to this conclusion but I'm really hoping the inability to walk was actually due to muscle atrophy than his original crippling. Or simply because he didn't have hardware installed anymore. Or power drained due to lack of use.

Until we have a clear explanation for how long he was out of commission (presumably in Armor Wars), I'm going to assume it's one of the other explanations.

The same reason that kind of dumb shit happens in all dramas of this nature. Dumb either way.

I guess Sharon Carter isn't a Skrull, despite how weird she was acting in Falcon and Winter Soldier.

I never expected that and I buy the explanation that she became disenchanted during the Blip. I imagine we'll get a better feeling on all of that later on when that thread is picked up again (Thunderbolts?).

He's fine with them as long as they didn't evolve from snakes.

What's Ross's stance on aliens, mutants and superheroes?

He's basically the badass JJ Jameson (and may be the same character on some level). He's an utter ass to one specific superhero but a lot nicer to every one else.

However, you can tell he enjoys beating them up/ruining their publicity a bit too much.

Which is to say it'd be an UTTER DISASTER to have him as President yet somehow is an improvement over SI's guy.

Finally saw the finale. My god, that was awful.
  • The political themes of this show are just atrocious due to the mixed messages. Like, they wanted to make some sort of point about refugees, immigration, and assimilation, yet the minority group was openly attempting to kill all humans and had been secretly impersonating many heads of state for years before that. It reflects back on the absolute worst of post-9/11 terrorism stories and horrible anti-Semitic conspiracy theories at the same time. It's like...what if the Jews really did have a secret cabal who was influencing the world government and were conspiring for global genocide?
  • Gravik was an awful villain. He had a sad about having to kill for Fury, so he just decided to kill everyone instead? Sure Jan.
  • The "twist" of the fakeout Fury was a really poor choice from a character standpoint, because the supposed protagonist of the show didn't actually defeat the villain. I suppose you could say it made more sense because Gi'ah had a personal animus against Gravik, while Fury didn't really seem to give a shit about him, but it just made Nick Fury look that much weaker as a character, as he was reduced to just darting a bunch of secret service agents and trying to convince a (shitty-ass) President at gunpoint.
  • Fury had no character arc here, because the speech that he gave to Gravik about recognizing it was his fault was not actually him.
  • Complete downer of an ending where Skrulls are now being killed on Earth so rapidly that Fury now believes trusting the Kree is a better option. I guess Marvel felt they needed the Skrulls here for some reason for Ms. Marvel or some later show, but I feel like there were better ways to do it than to effectively make all of them complicit in an attempt for global genocide.
  • The "super-Skrull" fight was stupid even by the standards of comic book physics.

So I really enjoyed this when it started, but the more think about it, the more it really just falls apart.
I think for me one of the biggest issues is they took what should have been a huge Avengers level apocalyptic/genocidal threat, and tried to make it a small scale story about Nick Fury. At times it felt like even the writers agreed that this didn't really make sense, since the constantly had everybody asking why Fury doesn't just call in the Avengers to deal with it. I really think they should have saved the Secret Invasion story for an Avengers movie, and made Fury's solo series a more grounded spy thriller.
It was so obvious the entire time that it was G'iah confronting Gravik and not the real Fury, that I had no reaction whatsoever when they revealed it was her. I will admit her fight with Gravik was pretty cool.
Ritson's big declartion of war and genocide against the Skrulls was so over the top and excessive that it just felt ridiculous. I could see going after the Council and the ones like fake Rhodey, but to go after every single Skrull was just ridiculous. You'd think someone would have pointed out that maybe not every single one of the million Skrulls on Earth deserved to die because of what Gravik did.
And the whole thing with Fury & Carol Danvers never finding the Skrulls a new homeworld was just strange. From everything else we've seen of them, neither of them seem like the type to give up so quickly, and we've seen from the other movies that there are a ton of habitable planets out there in the MCU, and I find it very hard to believe there isn't somewhere that would have worked as the Skrulls' new homeworld.

Hell, we know Thanos wiped out half the population of tons of planets. More than enough room on them for a million settlers.

Those aliens came back after the blip.

What were the criteria for a new Skrull homeword?
They must have had some tough qualifiers there like: the planet being save from Kree.
Earth is only save because of the Avengers.
Any other one needs to have protectors, too, be to far away for the Kree to bother or be hidden or something….
