Season one vibes

Renewal wasn't the point.
The point was if more people watch S2/S3/S4 than S1.
why is that the point?

I was replying to a post that was about the increase in viewership, not about the renewal of the show.

But people are moving the goalposts.

is trying to pass them off as the show’s total viewers

No, I did not.

The show also streams in Canada so we have no idea how many people stream it in that country.
Do you have the crave streaming numbers for Canada?

No, I don't have the viewership numbers for Crave.
But between Picard S1 in early 2020 and Discovery S4 in late 2021, Star Trek lost 1.3 million viewers in Canada.
The only legal way to watch NuTrek in Canada is on CTV SciFi or on the Crave streaming service.
The gain of subscribers for Crave does not reflect the loss of viewers on CTV SciFi.

Can you please explain to me why you constantly post about and conduct research on shows you’ve hated for years? Or why you care how many YouTube views channels discussing the show get?

I'm a Star Trek fan who hates NuTrek.

When people criticize Discovery, point out its flaws and NuTrek defenders are running out of arguments, NuTrek defenders use the argument "Discovery is popular, it gets renewed" or they point to "Demand Expressions" from "Parrot Analytics".

I bring up data points to argue against the assertion that Discovery is popular.

People on this forum have no problem citing "Parrot Analytics" to show how popular Discovery allegedly is, but when I show data from Twitter, YouTube, IMDB, or Rotten Tomatoes, the same data sources that "Parrot Analytics" is using, it is a problem.

Do you have the worldwide viewing numbers?

No, I don't. I have data points like this:

Rotten Tomatoes:
Discovery S1 Critic Ratings: 373 User Ratings: 9110
Discovery S2 Critic Ratings: 209 User Ratings: 3125
Discovery S3 Critic Ratings: 34 User Ratings: 1095
Discovery S4 Critic Ratings: 14 User Ratings: 642

The avclub.com announced, in the middle of the season 4 run, that they would stop writing weekly Discovery episodes because of low readership.

These are all data points, not the absolute truth.

Was browsing Youtube and came across some reminders of the "old" Star Trek Discovery

What happened to this show? The characters had an edge. They aren't constantly asking how each other are feeling. They're getting on with buisness.

This is the Discovery I loved.
Just came across this thread and wanted to say I totally agree. I don't hate the show as it is now by any means, but I really miss the vibes of season one. People always give me strange looks when I say season one is my favorite season. It was so different and had a real identity. I thought the overall filmmaking was better too.

I sort of feel where you are coming from. If I want to revisit DISCO it's the first season Blu-Rays I'm going back to. I particularly liked the first three episodes. Definitely DISCO has its flaws, from jump, but I did find the first season more interesting than the third or fourth. If Pike wasn't in the second season I would lump that season in as well with the last two.

I suppose for me the newness of DISCO in the first season, not knowing where it was going or who these characters were or would become, was the draw. And I feel that the last two seasons, while developing more of the characters (which is a good thing) also shortchanged when it came to worldbuilding, especially now that they have a whole new future to explore.

I admit I feel the same way.

But I suppose that's because my primary draw to the show was always Mary WIseman's Tilly.
