Season One Geordi and his smart-@ss remarks

I actually think that all the characters tended to go a bit more straight, after the first few seasons. Worf became a lot more dry. Riker didn't often behave as jovially as they spoke of him being

But I think they chose Geordi's quips a lot better even if they were fewer

A Matter Of Time
"If I hand my assignment in on time, can I get a glimpse into next week's poker game?" :guffaw:

What's even better, is the straight way he played that line, compared to his earlier deliveries from season 1

I've personally always loved his "Sure is a damned ugly nothing..." upon first seeing Nagilum.

I recall an early television interview about TNG--I think it was made just prior to the debut of the second season--and Roddenberry was talking about LaForge having a flip sense of humor about him. I think he was meant originally to be slightly irreverent and not as straight-laced as the other characters...

So he was going to be the cool black guy, and ended up being the most boring of the lot.

I think the show as a whole became more straight-laced as it went on. The change in Geordi's character being most noticeable. Riker too - he started out fairly wooden, loosened up quite a bit in season 2, then dulled a bit by season 3.

I'm not sure whether I would be able to tolerate seven seasons of "Season One Geordi", so I am glad he matured and became uhh... more seasoned I guess. One thing that did strike me about Geordi from Season 3 onwards is that adopted a rather irritable attitude. It wouldn't take much for someone to say or do something wrong before Geordi gives them a frown and a slightly raised voice.

If there is a highlight for Geordi for me in Season One, it is where he took command of the Enterprise in The Arsenal of Freedom. Watching Geordi in that episode is like a preview of how Geordi would mature when he becomes Chief Engineer in later seasons. It's too bad that it's the only episode where Geordi takes centre seat, I think.

I'd blame Sonya Gomez & her hot chocolate for Geordi's attitude issues.

Yeah, season one....~shudder~ There were lot's of cringe worthy moments for all the cast. Picards pomness, Crushers superior than thou, Rikers' swashbuckler/ladies man/I want to be Kirk, Datas' Pinocchio, Wesleys' boy genius/annoying part, Yars' "I will prove I am tough" every episode, Geordis' hip black guy role, Worfs ridicules/hard to take serious Klingon makeup.... the list goes on..... But somehow, it all gelled by season 2 and 3.
