Season 7 :(

I liked series 7 but agree with the Dax detractors. Too many eps had to be devoted to fleshing out a new main cast member and that detracted from the main story. They should have filled the void with one or two recurring characters. I DID always think it would have been cool to have a new Dax return in the final eps to help the crew win the day. That would have added some emotional punch to the final eps.

Ezri herself was not the problem so much as how much they had to stretch to find psychology work for her.

They could have probably told a better story if they’d just had her treating PTSD.

Think about the powerful story they could have told about soldiers dealing with the real psychological effect of war in a culture where we’re supposed to be too evolved to fear death. Just having psychological issues would be stigmatized as moral weakness. Instead they did pop psychology cliches. We saw a little of it in Siege, why not have a follow up episode where she is treating the survivors?

Things I liked about Ezri:
* The concept. Normally, Joined Trills are carefully trained and evaluated. What happens when this doesn't happen?
* The actress.

Things I didn't like:
* Dax returning. First time Trek kills off a main character since Tasha Yar... and they promptly bring them back. Worst "just kidding" since Superman.
* Sisko's rationale. Maybe DS9 needed a counselor... but did it need one who was more neurotic than her patients?
* The timing. If DS9 had gotten an eighth season (and with no movies planned, there was no reason to end it), they could have developed Ezri more.
* Ezri/Worf. Ick.
* Ezri/Bashir. Yawn.

I actually like season 7. Many good and exciting episodes.

As for Ezri, I really like her. I liked Jadzia too and didn't like that they killed her off. She should have devorced Worf and got a posting on the Enterprise or some remote outpost and maybe return as a recurring character. They also should have made Ezri a sister to Jadzia instead of a new host.

I had some objections to Ezri from the start, mainly because of the fact that Jadzia was dumped but it didn't take long before I started to like her. I must also state that even if it was a lot of Ezri, especially in the beginning off season 7, they didn't ram her down our throats in the same way they did with Seven on Voyager. But maybe my affection to Kes and me being annoyed over that Kes was dumped made me react more negative to that change.

I would have loved to see an eight or even a ninth season of DS9.

As for Ezri/Worf......hmmmmmmm. no!
It was a bit macabre considering Worf's grief when it came to Jadzia.

As for Ezri/Bashir. Well...........sort of OK, I think.

An eighth season of DS9, with the war over and the dust settling and more time for character based episodes, would have made Ezri a more viable addition to the show. And there was a lot to cover: uneasy peace with the Dominion, Bajor dealing with Federation membership and the loss of their Emissary, Cardassia trying to rebuild, and possibly the Romulans finding out that they got snookered into a war.

But the problem with Ezri/Bashir was that it just seemed like they got together because the script said they were supposed to. The way it happened (agreeing to be friends at the start of the elevator ride, sucking each other's lips off at the top) was perfectly symbolic of the kind of romance it was. I get that it happened, but it failed to interest me the way Jadzia/Worf did.

Still, it wasn't the worst Trek ship out there; Chakotay/7 and Worf/Troi are far better candidates for that dubious distinction.

I agree with you here.
Ezri/Bashir wasn't the best. Sort of OK, but more like they did it because those in charge just had to team up Ezri with someone.

Jadzia/Worf was actually OK so the reason why I wrote in my previous post that Jadzia should divorce Worf was actually to give her a reason to get another posting which would have been better than killing her off. OK, it would have been better if she hadn't divorced Worf but got a posting on the Enterprise and then Worf could have ended up there as well after the end of the Dominion War.

But as you wrote, there were worse pairings. Chakotay/Seven was downright stupid, no chemistry at all. It was more a finger from the writers and producers of Voyager to those fans who wanted a Janeway/Chakotay relationship.

The episode “Change of Heart” gave them the perfect opportunity to have Starfleet force Jadzia to be transferred to another post because of Worfs decision.

Deliberately separating a married couple? That seems like an extreme reaction.

How about in Change of Heart, Worf does not go back and save her, but she just barely lives. But after the mission is over she is so pissed off at Worf for abandoning her that she goes off on her own to think about whether to divorce him or not. She might make an appearance sometime in season 7, or might not.

One thing that irritates me a little is when Ezri is under the influence of the Breen truth serum or whatever... She says a few things... Like "my brother you could be so much more..." and then "about her host" "I am not like you Joran, I am not a murderer"... But her brother IS a murderer!!!! How can she forget that?

Just a thing that I find stupid.

I mean, how can she focus on her brother "not living up to his potential" when he's killed someone, How about telling him to make amends to rehabilitate himself? See what I mean?

Her drugged rambling wasn't as well reasoned as you'd like...?

I don't start shipping a couple just because they ended up together in canon.

I'd hardly call a pitch meeting for an imaginary episode in a documentary canon.

The connection is Worf getting a three-ton drum of something on his back (it takes at least that to crush a Klingon's spine)!!! Why can't they cancel artificial gravity in these holds? Better not think too much about that...

Or why couldn't they use Worf's last transporter image to make him whole again? I mean they can do it if you're completely destroyed by an incurable disease but not if your organs are damaged? What kind of crappy logic is this???

Very many scifi plots can fall apart when you add advanced tehchnology into the story. Better not think about all the possibilities technology can create or every story will have plotholes in them.
