Season 7...Love It? Or Hate It?

LOL. They had to hook up, from the moment she stepped foot on the station it was inevitable, like Chekhovs Re-association. I’m glad they got it out of their systems and moved on as friends and the show didn’t try to put them together long term.

Loved the more serialized story telling. I remember when it aired how TPTB finally let them write DS9 the way they wanted to for years, though only because it was almost over and they cared more about Voyager.

Hated the whole Siskos mom storyline. I think him having chosen Bajor of his own free will was far more compelling than it having been his destiny all along. And him disappearin at the end... ugh. I’d rather they killed him.

At first I hated Ezri but she’s grown on me. How Jadzia died is still a huge shame but her death made the war more “real” and gave Worfs character some (more) conflict. Cause as much as I loved them together, had she lived where would their story have gone in the 7th season? Their happy married life wouldn’t have juxtaposed well against the backdrop of the war.

Overall I thought it was a good season. Five and six are still my favorites though.

Worf and Jadzia could have had all sorts of fun as Federation ambassador to Kronos and wife. If Jadzia could resist the temptation to tell Worf what Curzon would have done, which I'm thinking she probably couldn't.

I didn't like the "Sisko's mom" storyline either and I agree that he could have chosen Bajorof his own free will. However, I'm happy that they didn't kill him off because that means that he can still returnto DS9 and his family.

I didn't like that Jadzia was killed off but I liked Ezri from the start. Great character but they shold have made her Jadzia's sister instead of that Dax symbiot thing.

What really makes Ezri authentic and interesting is that she never wanted to be joined-she didn't go through the years of training and preparation Jadzia and the other hosts did, she just receieved the symbiont to save its life.

I really wanted at some point to see her zhinta'ra-seeing her interactions with Jadzia would have been interesting.

I liked Ezra and much of Season 7. There were some good episodes mixed in with some mediocre ones and I really liked the development of Damar and seeing more of Cardassia.
Here are a couple of things that bring me down though.
I didn't like the development of the Section 31/Sloan storyline. It would have baby a lot more interesting to me if it hadn't been a lie and Bashir had actually found the cure and Sloan came to the station to prevent them from releasing it. Honestly, I would have enjoyed the storyline a lot more if it hadn't been Bashir and O'Brien essentially killing Sloan. IDK, I guess I like when Sisko or Kira or Worf embrace the dark side, but it's less entertaining to see Bashir and O'Brien do it.
My other least favorite story choice the writers made was destroying the Ferengi. That was the worst. I liked the Ferengi. Some of the episodes were bad like Profit and Lace, but the Magnificent Ferengi is one of my favs. The way the writers changed them in the last couple of episodes.... IDK, there was some build up, but not enough to me for the Nagus to have made all these changes without being assassinated. They used to be greedy, corrupt, and very alien from the humans we saw in the Federation, but seriously, I wish they had left the Ferengi alone. I heard it was beecause the writers wanted to make Rom the Nagus, so they needed a kinder, gentler, more federation Ferenginar in order to have the plot make sense, but it still made no sense and annoys me every time I re-watch the end of the season. Honestly, at this point t, I just ff and pretend they didn't make Rom the Nagus.

I thought all the jarringly unexpected twists and turns in s7 were great. I wouldn't change anything, except to have the show totally serialize earlier than it did. And for them to have merely approached the line of mysticism/magic/religion, rather than actually crossing the line.

My headcanon is that the prophets rewired all the ferengi's brains to be more receptive to Rom's ideas.

DS9 characters had a lot of depth and they all were very complex—except her. She struggled with being a Dax but other than that she was really just a “nice” character. One dementional. She belonged on TNG.

In fact, her push to be super Klingon was really annoying, especially when her and Worf were about to get married and she suddenly didn’t care about Klingon values, out of no where. It was a 180 shift, her interest in the Klingon rituals literally brought them together in the first place. Like...what?? Sorry, side bar.

As for the season as a whole, I enjoyed it. The Weyouns, the founders disease, the Klingon episodes...all very intriguing. Also, there was more Nog. I love Nog.

Nog was a good character, especially his development over the seasons. But I really hate the Valiant episode. The young characters of Red Squad are jerks.

I don't hate season 7 but it seemed unfocused. It was like the writers forgot about the key mission to the show and stalled for time until Inter Arma. The Dominion War should have been wrapped up in the middle of the season and then we could have some kind of aftermath. I appreciated what the books did but imagine if the show did it itself. It would have made everyone happy.

No question, I loved it. They were able to close out nearly every character very well,with details. It was a 9 episode arch, with a very coherent, well written, and well thought out story line.

I like Ezri even if I didn't like that Jadzia was killed off.
When Farrell left, Jadzia shouldn't have been killed off. Instead she should have been captured by the Dominion, ending up in a prison camp and being rescued and re-united with Worf in the final episode. Farrel could probably have been persuaded to do the final episode.
Ezri could have been a sister to Jadzia or something like that.

I would have liked that too -- that Farrell would come back for the final episode. I think she probably would have come too. By the way, never cared for Ezri.

Season 7 isn't bad. I honestly think it's the equal of Season 6 (which notably lost steam after In the Pale Moonlight, with most of the final third of that season mediocre to bad).

I loved it actually. The whole ending arc, think it was 13 episodes, was so innovative back then, remember recording it all on VHS and rewatching it constantly.
