Spoilers Season 5 trailer

One thing (I hope) Lower Decks has over those adult animated shows is a real sense of passage of time and character growth. The need to return to a previous status quo I feel is a major reason those shows can never really go anywhere and so will always feel tired after a certain point. I've watched a couple of recent "good" episodes of The Simpsons and they are better than some of the worst stuff I've seen, but they still feel worn down. It really doesn't help that they still look like they are young, but the voice actors sound much older.

Well you would, wouldn’t you? I mean, of course you did.
I would if I could've but didn't so I wouldn't have. Or something.

Honestly, those shows were so mixed bag for me. I had friends obsessed with them which left kind of an odd ball taste in my mouth and made me less interested as the show wore on.

By Season 5, The Simpsons must have had 120+ episodes.
103, actually.
I couldn't say when I quit, but I know I held on waaaaaay to long.
I gave up about twelve years ago. The last one I watched was the one Lady Gaga guest starred. Truth be told, there wasn't really anything particular to that episode that made me quit, that just happened to be the season finale. When the show came back in the fall, I found I just wasn't interested in watching it anymore.

I did randomly catch an episode from 2017 or so awhile back. I did not laugh once during it.

This is honestly like the best of those once great cartoons, because what they did best (Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama) was give their characters emotional depth, too. If they were just constant COMEDY! they wouldn't work.

And they write the emotional moments without cliche dialog. That moment in the cave where Beckett was talking about why she wanted to stay an ensign sounded 'right'. It sounded raw and not like a speech.

Or Boimler defending the less pew-pew bang bang aspects of Star Trek/Starfleet.

All of it combined just makes me happy to get a show that really speaks to me and why I've been a fan for almost 40 years.

Simpsons. Futurama. Family Guy.

Don't want Lower Decks to outstay it's welcome and become a gaggle of trite unfunny jokes for years. Let it go and be fondly remembered.

Trailer looked like fun. Still hoping for William Boimler to come back.
It's only done 50 episodes. That's nothing.

If Next Gen had been cancelled after 50 episodes that would've been just before Michael Piller took over as executive producer in season 3. Deep Space Nine would've ended two episodes after getting the Defiant. Voyager would've stopped halfway through Future's End. The NX-01 crew would've never heard of the Xindi.

And TOS... okay maybe that one wouldn't have been the end of the world. But those other shows would've ended before they'd even gotten good.

We're lucky LD didn't have to wait and was good out of the gate. :techman:
