I liked DS9's earlier efforts. Contrary to the general series trajectory, however, they got increasingly dire as they went on.

I think that is fair. Though I was rooting for Sisko to get Jennifer back. After "Through the looking glass" I thought that was were it was going.

Plus, I thought the idea that Kirk changed Spock and that the Terran Empire reformed.......and got taken over was a fun idea.
