All of this is great news. Given the little bit we know from the text teaser, I worried this would be another contained episode focusing solely on Discovery finding the Maguffin of the series, and we wouldn't check back in on the wider universe until the finale.
Do we know if episode 10 will be longer?
Maybe a full hour like the other finales, but that's just a guess.
Did they know this season was the last by the time they were taping episode 10? I know it wasn't planned to be so before they started taping.
No, but they were granted to budget to do re shoots.
As @Galaxy said, at the time they did not. Some extra funds and time was made available to film a coda of sorts that would not only end the season, but the show as a whole. Meaning it originally ended with the idea of having another seasons.
