Season 5 anticipation thread

Did we already see this shot before?

It’s not Discovery, but I thought this was a pretty cool sequence …

There’s a quick shot of Reno in that video last page. I was worried she wasn’t going to be in this season

I will admit, Discovery is not my favorite Star Trek show. I like watching it, but I'm less excited about it than SNW or how I used to be about DS9.
But the entire rumor-mill on what this season could be about.... Yeah I'm kinda stoked.

I’d get flamed to death pretty much anywhere else, but while SNW is definitely the more consistent show, Discovery is a far more interesting show and always has been. It’s never been afraid to push the boundaries and while it’s lost much of its gutsiness by too readily capitulating to fan complaints, it’s still the most maverick Trek we’ve had since DS9. I’m hopeful it gets a decent conclusion.

I'm going in. Putting on Raiders of the Lost Ark, which I've seen exactly once ever. Then it's onto The Temple of Doom, which I've never seen, if I still have the energy for it.

I look forward to your reviews.
Don't expect anything too long or in-depth. Just my quick takes.

I'm 20 minutes in. Rayner's going to be like Indiana Jones. Not necessarily heroically (thought he might think of himself that way), but he'll know all about The Lost Arc, or whatever equivalent it is they're looking for. He'll know more than Burnham. In Raiders of the Lost Ark, where they're talking about ancient times and the Egyptians, in DSC they'll be taking about the 24th Century as their "ancient times". Or the Romulans were the ancients in search of something even more ancient. Which is where the ancient race from "The Chase" (TNG) comes into the picture.

EDITED TO ADD: 45 minutes in. Like Indiana Jones has dealt with Belloq before, I bet Rayner has dealt with L'ak and Moll before. Indiana Jones and Belloq seem like parallels of each other. I think it's been mentioned (I don't remember where) that L'ak and Rayner will also be parallels of each other. Belloq works for Germany. The enemy in the 1930s. L'ak and Moll, from what I understand, worked for the Emerald Chain. The enemy in the 3180s.

I'm sticking to the broadest of broad strokes.

You have at least one spoiler in there.

Gonna keep this short and sweet, because I'm tired and it's late.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - It's not normally my type of movie, but I can see why it's considered a classic, and it was a lot of fun in general. There was one scene in there that reminded me of something I saw in the trailers for DSC S5, and I'll point out which one it was when we get to it in the season.

The Temple of Doom - How do I put it? This isn't as good as Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's a time-killer and that's it. I'll be surprised if much or anything from this movie finds its way into DSC S5.

I like "adventure" movies, which can be different than pure action movies. A lot of these are quest stories, and I think it was a great choice to differentiate from the other seasons.

And to remind everyone, there is a Zoom Meeting on the Saturday following new episodes. We do a round table where everyone gets to give their opinion on the latest episode.
Our first one will be on Saturday, April 6. It starts at 4pm Eastern.
You can find the link at starting time here: https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/zoom-session-to-talk-about-star-trek.306852/page-35

Note: Anyone being disruptive will probably be booted. :)

Hope to see you there.

If it wasn't for my work schedule, I'd do it.
