Spoilers Season 4 Trailer

I would also like to know how fast their warp is now. I still think them still using that at this time seems a bit antiquated. Would be like use still using coal to power our vessels.
The Dominion still used conventional warp drive and it was supposed to be like 2000 years old. I don't even think their ships were particularly faster than any of the alpha quadrant races.

"Completely telegraphed." Really? I seem to recall when the first season was airing and the rest of us were predicting Lorca was from the MU, you were the one arguing he "clearly wasn't." But now it was "completely telegraphed"?

Regardless, when the reveal was made Lorca was indeed written differently and he lost all subtlety he previously had.
Still one of the more interesting characters in Discovery. In a cast of interesting people he stands out.

I love Isaacs and Lorca, but it really would have been better if they had left him as he initially seemed, a war hardened Starfleet captain rather than Mirror Lorca.
Maybe. I would like to think so, and my fan fiction would reflect that. But, that's not what is.

I believe it is precisely that. I think it is a combination of current cultural discourse as well as a lack of trust in the audience. I do not believe this production team trusts the audience at all any more and so simplify things for the sake of not losing them, not realizing that by doing so they probably will lose some.

The thing is "defeat the bad guy" isn't a stock part of TV Trek. Obviously part of this is the relative paucity of serialization in Trek, but in general TV trek has traded in antagonists more than true villains.

It's also worth noting that although to some degree I think CBS is trying to warp Trek into its own version of the MCU, even Marvel fans admit that the villains are typically boring and the third-act fights the worst portions of the movies.

Not always, though it is interesting to revisit TOS and the monster of the week stories. I recently watched "The Man Trap." But, regardless of whether or not it is a part of stock TV Trek it is where Trek is now. And maybe that's a part of Marvel but I doubt it.

The discussion of the Lorca reveal makes me think of how they flirted with making Osyraa a three-dimensional character before quickly reverting her back to a mustache twirler for the finale.

There's less whiplash with Osyraa reverting back to a stock evil warlord, when her fragile ego got crushed by an uncomprising Starfleet, and she still burst into their HQ on one of their hijacked starships.

Osyraa is nicey nice with the fat bearded dude in the hover chair because she's a gangster with pretensions of being a venerable statesman and the Emerald Chain has to treat some of its subjects well enough to sustain its complex science and industry sector (when brutal slavery is one note).

Not to tilt things too wayward, but I’ll chime in once — and only once — that even throughout the several years that I lurked here with my old account, a certain prolific poster has indeed admitted to being incorrect approximately... never.

Tis a bit tiring!

Anyway, Lorca. Cool dude. Still cool after the big reveal, but only because Jason Isaacs delighted in it all. In the hands of a less impressive actor, the role would have fallen apart for me.

Big arcs are fine.

But why not try something other than 'The Universe is in peril'?

Yup. Another Burnham saves or she makes everyone give her the credit for doing it. She still has that stupid fake deep batman voice. She says again we will do this........together. After that she'll take all the credit. I predict lots of crying yet again. Also the moron producers couldnt use the red yellow and blue uniforms or at least the cage style uniforms for the first two seasons in the era of just before TOS but 1000 years in the future they go use the colors. So dumb.

Get off my cloud.

Don't be an ass. Just because you didn't like something doesn't mean they're morons.

They certainly aren't smart. How hard was it to follow simple rules of continuity like the uniforms? How about viewscreen technology instead of a window? Also the future federation never came up with a replacement for dilithium and warp drive in a thousand years and they are in awe of the spore drive. They couldnt make any advancements to the way their ships travel. The destruction of dilithium cripples them? Really hard to believe. This show isnt even on the level of the weakest Berman show which would be enterprise. Its certainly nowhere near as good as TOS. Im not a troll. I gave my opinion on the trailer and the way the producers are destroying trek. Not all of us are going to love this drivel.

Star Trek Into Platitudes.

SMG's sub par acting comes through in her voiceover here.

Everything about the trailer is generic. The music, the tone, the big stakes premise, the dialog.

Totally agree. Another big stakes universe in danger threat and Burnham will be the hero and everyone will praise her. Also crying lots and lots of crying.

there’s nothing wrong with crying. It’s human thing to do.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it or engage with it. Why waste the negative brain power on it? Ignore it and move on with your life.

I don’t see the point of people coming into every thread of something they dislike and complaining about it.

I hate nemesis and final frontier, but I don’t go into those threads just to complain about them.

So basically if i want to review, analyze or talk about a show here i need to like it and give a positive review? Many star trek fans such as myself who have helped keep the franchise going for years don't like to see it debased. If we voice our concerns someone may make changes. Some of these producers might even look at these boards to see peoples reactions. To say we have no right to complain or say how we feel about a show or movie is ridiculous.
