Season 4 First Clip

Adria and Gray served no real purpose but to be just what they were, a stand in for non binary couples. they were just poorly created and also it does not help that discovery did not really have the greatest writing.

Also the actors were bland, one note and boring as you can get. they added nothing to the show. Emperor Georgiou who we used to call Space Hitler in the hey days was kind of entertaining to watch, love or hate her, she was never boring and of course she was played by the fabulous Michelle Yeoh, who is just hard to hate in any role.

Lastly TNG has already dealt with non binary romance and had Riker of all people play one of the main characters in love with the non binary character and while it was not my favourite TNG episode, TNG executed it well as usual.

Adiria and Gray felt more like ticking a box than telling a story with depth as TNG did.
I just wish when people say ......oh people hate spock/chapel or adria/gray they give real reasons why. fans do not just wake up and start hating on a pairing, something has to trigger it.
It's weird that no one seems to be mentioning the gay married couple who were awesome and wonderfully portrayed. Adira and Gray were not my favorite, adorable as they were. I kind of felt like the actors themselves were too inexperienced and didn't have the chops to meet the moment. That's my take. Hugh and Paul were perfect though. Also, I fucking love Discovery.

true that the actors were too in experienced that is why I called them bland, one note and boring. to be honest some of the actors from streaming trek in general seem way to in-experienced for the role or lack the screen presence or physicality to play the role.

Unlike TOS or TNG were I would say they got all the casting right, SNW and Discovery does have a lot of weak or miscasting and that sometimes does affect how the story can go or why writers would choose to focus mostly on other characters.

Star Trek has always been diverse and in a
ground breaking ways. TOS uhura been one of the first black women on tv who was not seen as a maid or Sulu not been a stereotypical asian like that awful character Mr. Yunioshi from breakfast at tiffanys but with steaming star trek, I feel some casting has just been more about ticking boxes than finding well suited actors to play the role even if the characters are meant to be non white or not presented hetrosexual. Adria/Grey were the best examples of this.

The cast of Strange New Worlds is one of the show’s biggest strengths. Its casting has been flawless thus far.

we can agree to disagree but what is done is done.

However if we get a year one, which I doubt we will since SNW is barely surviving in ratings and paramount cannot even make 10 episodes for season 5, they would need a stronger cast with memorable actors and that would mean casting first people with acting talent, screen presence, the right physicality and experience than just trying to cast solely based on the hollywood incorporated diversity quota

Every version of the actors we have seen in SNW is weaker than their TOS and Kelvin counterparts and that includes the most iconic of them all. Jim Kirk who is played by Paul Wesley. In other words, the past actors have owned the role better.

It's my understanding that the plan was originally to do a movie in place of the fifth season, that was until the showrunners said they couldn't complete the story in a single movie, so Paramount gave them six episodes.

Again, one thing that is near universally agreed upon is that the cast of Strange New Worlds is absolutely stellar. They each have all the traits you mentioned , and more.

You don't like strong woman, and now you don't like diversity. You're a real peach, aren't you?

Yeah, no. Fuck no. I say that as someone who absolutely adores TOS and also has a real affinity for the Kelvin movies.

Nope.

Wesley does a fine job playing a younger Kirk who is still learning what it takes to be a Captain. I'll go as far as saying he's terrific. His on-screen chemistry with Spock is especially noticeable. It's been generally talked about how he gets better with every single appearance. He's growing into the role and I can only hope that we will continue to see him play Jim Kirk in some capacity in the future.
