Spoilers Season 3 Episode 9 'Terra Firma pt 1' promo

The revelation that temporal soldiers would move across dimensions as well as time is an interesting one. However, I hope they leave it vague enough as not to screw up many other things. I think the Temporal Cold Wars have assumed an aura of something terrible and very dangerous - best left as that as exploring them further could spell trouble

It could be that the MU and Prime universes were the closest universes to each other, and the creation of the Kelvin timeline, as it progressed, became a wedge in between?
But that is not drifting apart that is getting abruptly split.

We have seen at least back to First Contact that some things happen differently and every little difference would slowly add up to the point that they are wildly diverged by the 32nd century

Lots of things in Trek start to look dumb when you get too deep into them.
Time travel, Borg, Klingon foreheads and replicators

Trouble how? It could be explored in an interesting way or be boring or just not every well done...

Seriosuly though - why the need to send Georgiou back in time instead of spinning Section 31 off in the 32nd century?! I can see many more opportunities to shape Section 31 (or revive it even) then than back in a World with so much canon...

Or just send her back and quietly cancel her show because both S31 and the mirror universe should have been left where they were and not done to death by subsequent shows and JJTreks

Either one presents opportunities for entertainment. I think I prefer the 32nd century S31 but would be OK with other eras as well.

My question is though, if they send Georgiou back to prime timeline 23rd century to join S31, wouldn’t that mean 32nd Century Starfleet knew of her and Discovery’s time travel shenanigans before they arrived? Cause theoretically, they would already know that they were going to retroactively send Georgiou back in time?
I have always suspected that S31 knew all about Discovery and were waiting for her to appear...

^^^ Good possibility, that.
That would be a pretty awesome play.

That would make sense. Tyler was presumed (may have actually happened on screen) to be head of S31 in 22nd / 23rd Century after Discovery was presumed "destroyed". He certainly knew and I can't see someone in his position allowing an asset like Discovery to just fade into history. Maybe its a deal where only the heads of S31 know Discovery's true fate.

That is cringingly self-indulgent writing but would make perfect sense within this creative team's writing logic.
I know. I wouldn't go this way, as to me (in the quantum theory way of thinking) there are infinite universes with infinite timelines.

But given we have someone who was involved with the last 3 movies as head of this (as well as a seeming desire to tie things together somehow) there is probably this overhanging edict to make the Prime, MU and Kelvin universes the only 3 solid timelines, with the Kelvin one beginning its wedge in 2233 when Nero emerges and destroys the Kelvin.

Is there a difference is a parallel universe and an alternate reality?

A parallel universe is a universe that’s always been running concurrently with the prime universe (the MU). An alternate universe is one that’s created from time-travel shenanigans and branches off from the prime timeline at a certain point but shares the same past from before the branching off (the Kelvin timeline.)

Or something.

It's always been both interesting yet confusing to me, but yeah, that's pretty much it. Parallel universes are the timelines running in line with each other (rails on a railroad track), but alternate realities happen when something hits into those lines and branches off them, interrupting the flow.

Not if it was classified information. Plus S31 is super secret.

Probably because of Voq/Tyler.
