Coming from Q and the Borg Queen, Sela seems... kind of perfunctory. Wouldn't mind seeing her again though, even if Romulans were already done in Season 1.
https://twitter.com/EISTPod/status/1512927611315441667 She's probably just teasing, but you never know. I wouldn't mind seeing Seven and Janeway interacting again.
I'm having a feeling this whole thing won't be what nostalgic fans want. Just a feeling, given the fact that the show is notorious for NOT doing what fanboys want... just BECAUSE it's being written by fanboys. One fanboy's dream is another fanboy's nightmare. I mean if we said to every single person here "please write a TNG crew reunion and send them on one last adventure" we'd get a zillion different stories and people would start hitting each other over the head fairly quickly. What I mean: Give it to me and you get Jean-Luc in every scene and maybe Jean-Luc holding Tribbles (the cuteness, argh) and GENERALLY JEAN-LUC EVERYWHERE, can we also please have him in a shirtless scene maybe, just for entirely shallow reasons, oh, was there even anyone else in the TNG crew? Eh they'll get a short little hi and then we go back TO JEAN-LUC. (lol) Give it to someone else and you get spaceships and explosions and space battles and Admiral Picard back in the command chair, fighting the Borg, the Dominion, the Breen, whoever. Give it to someone else again and you get courtrooms, conspiracies, space politics, JLP speeches. Etc etc etc. tl;dr: We all see and want something different when we think about TNG. Which is why this reunion is not going to please the fandom as a whole, despite people getting nostalgically excited. I said the same when PIC was announced btw and I guess I can now safely say I was right about that one. On a side note: I've said it before, but Sir Patrick HAS said that there will be a surprise regarding the Enterprise - so, for those who wish to see an Enterprise, there will most likely be one. In some capacity.
They remodeled the Enterprise for Strange New Worlds. Context is for Kings Star Trek: The Next NEXT Generation?
I'd send them bobbing for apple's in a black hole. In all seriousness, not every show needs to have the final destiny of its characters. I find it far more satisfying to know that they are simply out there living their lives and getting into adventures all their own.
I thought the timing of the teaser for season 3 was strange - sort of takes the wind out of the sails of the current season IMO
I guess they wanted something for First Contact Day, and that was all they had that fandom would give a shit about?
I interpreted the surprise announcement as an attempt to get ahead of leaks. Presumably they were worried something was about to get out.
The timing made no sense indeed but then, Paramount’s promotional decisions haven’t made sense in a long while (or ever? lol) so there’s that… I do think there’s something about them wanting to get ahead of leaks and thus making this a spur-of-the-moment decision tho. When the news broke it seemed to me like as if everyone was like “wait what, NOW???” and quickly scrambled to write and publish an article. When you have a well-prepared press release you usually have all the major reliable news outlets posting articles at roughly the same time (as soon as the embargo is lifted, which is usually at a specific time), this time it was all over the place and seemed rather uncoordinated. I mean no one told Sir Patrick (or his PR team) apparently since he didn’t even tweet about it
Honestly, the fact that they are announcing it makes it more apparent they have confidence in the series going forward. It's the same idea of having "Unification" tie directly to TUC as film. The two otherwise did not overlap, but generated buzz towards another project. Paramount is probably just dealing with potential links and getting ahead of the game and then taking all the discussion that comes with it.
I thought it probably served as a mid-season publicity bump for the current run. I guess Paramount will be looking at the viewing figures closely.
