Spoilers Season 3 Cast Announcement

I’m just talking about accepting that the characters in the story, and the setting in the story...

If something is set in 1963 Dallas, the reader can reject it based on it not matching what 1963 Dallas was. It doesn't really matter what the author's intent was.

This is the height of fantasy. The fantasy of one simply doesn't match up with the fantasy of another. And since we have great concepts like the Multiverse, which is also part of the universe, I tend to go with that as a solution to the contradictions.

I feel that basically is ignoring the author's intent and will remove a part, however so small, of the enjoyment as the author intended.

I enjoyed what I enjoyed of Discovery far more as its own thing than an addendum to the TOS universe.

I'm glad.

How effective the author was is always up for interpretation. My point is starting with the attitude of the author is lying about the intent of the work misses something, at least for me.

Mileage will vary.

Lying? No. I simply don't care what their intent was. I prefer to watch, read, listen and make up my own mind on what the product means to me. And as far as Trek goes, I'm not missing out on anything treating it as a multiverse, I get most every wink-nod they throw out, doesn't do anything to convince me this is all one timeline.

Simply because it can't all be one timeline. Not to anyone that has reasonably paid attention to Star Trek for any amount of time. I'm not talking differences in production values, I'm talking about all the times they've interfered in the timeline over the course of ten series and fourteen movies. "Predestination Paradox" can only carry one so far.

And that's fine. I find it more important.

Carries me just fine.

Anyone think they'll pull some fan pleading moment where the end of season 3 has the entire TNG cast back on the "USS Enterprise F"?

It won't make sense why any of the original cast are supposed to be serving on this new enterprise but the writers decided to end the series like that?

In a recent YT stream Foley over at TrekYards was suggesting pretty hard that he had heard there's an Enterprise in season 3. Take that with as much salt as you'd like.

Don't we already have one? Disco S3 had Yor travel between the Kelvin and Prime universes and obviously there's everything with the mirror universe as well.
Technically yes, but I think they'll take it a step further. Especially when they want to celebrate the 60th Anniversary with TOS stuff.

And if they want to re-reboot the films or reboot TNG or want to shut people up about different versions of Klingons and different versions of the 2250s-60s.

It's coming for those reasons and more.

I think they're trying to ease people into the idea slowly.

He served on the -D longer than the -E. He probably likes it more.

He actually served on the E slightly longer, around 8-9 years, as opposed to the 7 and a half-ish on the D.

Everyone’s debating whether we’ll see the E or the F in season 3, maybe we’ll see both?
