Season 2 Remastered DVDs CANCELLED

Some Season 2s("Private Little War","By Any Other Name")have yet to air. Probably several others.

I think the writer of that article is confused. Toshiba wasn't paying for remastering/cgi stuff (CBS/Paramount probably wouldn't even take someone's money for that, as to not risk their full ownership of the series). Toshiba was probably paying just for the creation of HD-DVDs. And if they stop that, then that shouldn't impact the remastering and the syndication schedule (or future Blu-ray releases).

You're sure about that, are you?

Because if Toshiba was financing the process of remastering itself, then I don't see how it could continue anymore now that Toshiba has exited the business. :(

(The only home video release that any TOS-R releases can have now, is Blu-Ray, and I highly doubt Toshiba would support that.)

As Jack Bauer would say: Dammit!

I know a lot of TOS purists would prefer that there never be any remastering, but I *liked* the remastered eps. I thought they looked great! And now to be stopped so short of the goal... :(

However, if all of the remastering has been completed, then obviously it doesn't matter what Toshiba thinks anymore. Is there any official word on how much work has yet to be done?

Anthony who?
I believe that's PowderedToastMan??

I've seen that username before, but is he somehow officially connected with the show? How does he know what they'll do?

He runs TrekMovie.com (someone correct me if I'm wrong), and seems to be in the know. He was able to score a live chat with JJ Abrams and the cast and crew of Star Trek on the freaking set!!

Keep in mind, I'm just assuming that I'm right about what Fleetlord said.

Since I don't work for CBS I can't be 100% sure. But it doesn't make sense for Toshiba to be paying for the remastering process, specially considering that when they started TOS-R Paramount/CBS didn't even have their exclusive HD-DVD deal yet.

In either case CBS is not short on money, and there is zero chance of them stopping the remastering at this point (and give up all the profits they would be making from syndication, cable, Blu-ray sales).

Yeah, you'd think so, wouldn't you?

Then again, look at what Paramount did last summer when they yanked all support for Blu-Ray at the last minute.

It's things like this that make me lose faith in some corporations. :(

Wrong. We purists would LOVE to see TOS remastered ... we just hate the newly added FX!

Whatever.

In any case, you've got to be loving this news, right? Your precious "original series" gets to stay as it is, and WE who actually ENJOY the remastered version don't get to watch it. Happy now?

I don't care one way or the other, as long as the old DVD box sets are still available, even if they are not HD.

As I said, I would have enjoyed TOS remastered. I really would have. If they had left the episodes just as they were, instead of putting fancy fx shots in there. And if I had an HD player and tv, which I don't ... but that's another thing. To me, adding new fx to a 40 year old tv series is just unacceptable. It ruins everything. And it's not what a REMASTER is about anyway.

Would have been nice to have an UNTOUCHED HD version of TOS, though ... but I doubt that will ever happen, now that they have started messing around with it.

AFAIK, the old sets still are available.

Well, as I said, you've got your wish now. Apparently, TOS-R is dead. Go ahead and gloat. :(

I dunno, they tried defacing Red Dwarf with CGI once upon a time, but no one bit. Maybe they'll do it right for BluRay without any of that CGI crap.

Yeah, and maybe I'll get the original Motion Picture on DVD in my lifetime.

At least there are some digital tv recordings out there, now all I want is the SLV in widescreen!

I am so disappointed in Toshiba giving up on HD. Naturally I bought my $400.00 HD A20 in August and not I guess it's already obsolete. Well at least it plays regular DVD's real well. But I am not running out to get a blu-ray machine just yet. :brickwall:

I think I saw part of one RM episode at about three AM once; It was interesting. Other than that I've been very happy with my regular DVDs ( The ones that were released in that hiddious orange and green packaging). Sometimes being set in one's ways has it's benefits.

Maybe its because I'm younger and used to better effects, but I was enjoying the new digital remasters. I was looking forward to getting Season 2 on DVD so I could see episodes like Doomsday Machine, Trouble with Tribbles, and Ultimate Computer. But if what Im reading is true, then the old vanguard of fans who appear not to want to give up their precious old special effects win. But I restate, I for one was enjoying the newly done effects and picture.
