Spoilers Season 2 Publicity Photos

Man, I hate to be this harsh, but in this shot Rebecca Romjin looks like she had at least one or two plastic surgeries too many...
I don't know. She's a very beutiful woman. But somehow the way her face looks here stresses me out, in an uncanny valley kind of way.:sigh:
And I feel bad now. Both for her, and for me making such comment about her.

I am so deeply sorry you had to go through the horrors of looking at a picture of a 45 year old woman with a serious expression on her face...

I can only imagine what that must feel like for you. Your pain is acknowledged, and I hope you find a way to get through this somehow and aren't left scarred for life by this heinous incident...

The question is more, how will she get over it?

Jesus Christ. Talk about missing the point by a mile....
I would abso-fuckin-lutely, 100% PREFER to watch a 45 year's old face that actually looks it's age.

It's the massive amount of botox and fake lips I have a problem with.

And it's comments like yours (only complete with the reaction-face of a young, sexy twenty-something!) that's so toxic to the public discourse in this case. Your obsession with youth LEADS to older actresses feeling the need to go to plastic surgery in the first place, because you can't tolerate an "older" actress (45 is not that old) actually looking her age.

Instead you groom the culture where everybody has to always look young, and as soon as a woman is over 30, it's much better to have more fuckin' plastic than muscles in their face, and not being able to move half of it. But god forbid there's a wrinkle anywhere! Yeah, that's healthy...

I think it might be you that's missing the point here, the problem is it's not your issue to have, it's her face and her choice, if she decides to have plastic surgery and turn herself blue that her business, not yours to judge. She is there to play a part and we haven't seen her do that yet, but regardless of whether you prefer her with or without the botox you looked at that picture and felt the single most pressing thing to comment on was her looks.

Yeah but let's be honest when we look at a photo what else is there to comment about but the look of it??

Sure, there's lots there to comment on if you feel the need, surely judging her on choices she has made with her own body isn't all there is to it? She's not there to justify those choices or be judged on them. If the point were that Rahul has concerns about the ever expanding cosmetics industry and the impact it has on society and women's self perception we could easily have that conversation in misc, but that wasn't it at all, he just didn't like the way she looks and it was apparently the single most pressing or interesting thing he took home from that shot.

Before the question comes up yes absolutely I'd hold the same opinion if it were a man on the picture.

I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have felt the need to put so much plastic in her face if there weren't so many jackasses on the internet commenting on "hoho, look how oooold she looks" every time a woman that's not in her twenties anymore is on screen.

The mainstream situation simply is that a woman actress has to look young. And that apparently it's preferable to botox your entire face, than to show a singly wrinkle. And comments like yours are cementing that image. Because you are not oh so humble not commenting on her looks. You are approving of this sickening norm, and try to silence people who don't necessarily agree with such behaviour as a role model for their children.

If only more men were as brave as you to just tell actresses when they become too ugly.
There really isn't enough of that sort of thing on the internet you know...

But yeah, it's totally women calling out sexist comments that's the REAL problem here.

I'd post a gif here, but since the only thing you noticed about the last one was how "sexy" it was I guess I can only use Rebecca Romijn ones safely because she isn't sexy enough anymore, right?

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

Because that's what I said....:guffaw:
Jesus fucking Christ.

Good job on keeping up your attitude of "only sexy woman as gifs allowed" though.:D

Good job keeping up commenting on how women look.

"Look at the constant in my behaviour, but don't mention the constant, because that would make YOU the one talking about it".

Next somebody says he's reading the Playboy only for the interviews, and everyone that suggests otherwise is a sexist pig because he's talking about what shouldn't be talked about. Yeah.

I guess I'm done with this conversation.

In case you didn't notice: i never called her ugly. I said I liked her.

AND that I'm sad that she apparently felt the need to go through this much plastic surgery.

This really shouldn't be controversial. And is far less offensive than what you insinuated at every chance.

Sadly, THE LIBRARIANS has been cancelled. They're auctioning off the props already.

Although, ahem, there's still one more LIBRARIANS tie-in novel coming out later this month. :)

Really? Who’s writing it? ;) xD

Ok, I'll try to be balanced here, what is it about that particular shot that made you feel the first and only comment worth making was about her appearance?

...It's a shot. What else could it be about but appearance?

Yeah, there's one line of dialogue there, too. Perhaps a bit more conversational than we would expect from the "walking freezer unit" of the TOS pilot. But it doesn't contain much seed for discussion.

TO be honest: Because it was the one thing I most noticed about this shot - especially during the trailer in motion - and this picture was very prominent in the beginning of this thread.

There are other things I noticed about this particular shot as well:
  • Her hair. That's pretty good, it very much channels Majel Barrett, without feeling like 60s hair
  • Her voice. Also a pretty good fit for the character
  • The uniform: I like the colored version much more than the blue Disco-uniforms, but the black collar is not good
  • Somebody mentioned that she's wearing pants (like Majel Barret), and not a dress. I like that too (though to be fair, most women on Disco wearing pants - the dress seems to be the exception, like the one redshirt from the first trailer)
But to be frank - all that had already been covered pretty good in this thread, and I agree with it mostly. The "appereance" of her face - was the one thing that I negatively noticed. Because I knew Rebecca Romjin, but haven't seen anything from her in a while, and simply expected her to look like a middle-aged woman, and was shocked to see her this way instead. To be honest - it may be that it's only this single shot that makes it look this way. Who knows. But it was the one thing I noticed most about this particular shot.
