Spoilers Season 2 Publicity Photos

It's probably much easier to make a character look like another actor's prior version than getting the new one to feel like the earlier one. The latter is more on the actor's ability to make the part a little less "their own" than they normally would.

I can't tell you how few times I've watched The Cage, but I don't have a strong recollection of Majel's Number One. Ethan Peck will have a harder sell for sure, so by putting Spock in his "hippie phase", they might be taking a little bit of the pressure off and he can grow into the part if they do a Pike/Enterprise series.
Spock was very loud and emotional at this point in TOS . If he tries to channel Nimoy's overall performance, he'll miss that, much like Nimoy went overboard in swamping Robin Curtis with logic .

I guess the really interesting route would be to lampshade this thing. That is, accept that "The Cage" is a bit of an anomaly for Spock, but reinforce the idea that it being one is an in-universe feature.

Is it just his youth? As a kid, he was quite the hothead when provoked (much like Tuvok). Or is it a phase all Vulcan teens go through, even after a serene childhood? Or did Spock have special issues with his human half at the time?

We don't need to learn this, as long as we get the lampshading. Worf was acting kinda crazy in "Where Silence Has Lease", say, and the other heroes seemed worried, but the issue was never addressed. In light of the rest of Dorn's portrayal of the character, and in light of what we know of Klingon physiology, we may well speculate Worf was having a "period" of some sort. It rather enriches the episode, bringing further horror elements to the spooky story: one of our heroes can't be trusted. But it need not be explained away.

I would actually like it if Spock on DIS said something alike "I tried to replicate certain human emotional behaviours during my time serving on the Enterprise to better fit in. But alas, my colleagues preferred me to communicate my thoughts in a genuine genuine way over some sort of mimicry."

And then be done with it.

Pretty sure it wasn't just logic he swamped her with on the genesis planet. #ponfarr
I was referring to the director. Technically Spock was a young buck rather than an old dude when whatever happened in the cave stayed in the cave.

Looks like this new version is going to be emotional so lock up your communications officers.

I hope we FINALLY get a:

"DEFLECTORS, FULL INTENSITY!!!"
and
"THE WOMEN!!!"

moment in ST: D ;)

Shouty Spock in The Cage can be explained away as an ear infection that affected his hearing. No need to dwell on it.
Um, he did the "DEFLECTORS FULL INTENSITY!!!" bit in the first regular episode filmed (I believe the 9th in broadcast order) - TOS "The Corbomite Maneuver" <---- Still my favorite (and IMO best) episode in the entire Star Trek franchise. :)

DEFLECTORS FULL INTENSITY was from WNMHGB.

Corbomite Maneuver had STAND BY TO PHOTOGRAPH....NOW! and a few other good shouty examples like SHE'LL BLOW SOON! (immature chuckle )

You know what? I hated Spock screaming "KHAAAAN" in Into Darkness. Because it was supposed to be a serious moment, that was completely undercut by the indulgence in reference.

But if they manage to write the Disco-Spock in a situation where he screams "THE WOMEN" in a comedic moment - I'm SO going to celebrate them for that! :guffaw:

You're the only one displaying the attitude. The constant tone-policing is tedious.

Yet, she seems to be the one getting the likes and support from other members, not to mention cracking jokes that people actually laugh at.

Oh the tedium of popularity and wit :)

SPOCK: One degree to overlap. Stand by to photograph. Now.

BAILEY: Three days of this now, sir. Other ships must have made star maps of some of this.

SPOCK: Negative, Lieutenant. We are the first to reach this far.

SULU: Sir, contact with an object. It's moving toward us. No visual contact yet.

SPOCK: Deflectors, full intensity.
^^^^
He said it in TOS - "The Corbomite Maneuver" as well. ;)
