Scruffy-looking untitled Han Solo film thread

Han and Jabba had a good working relationship in the beginning, would like to see that, even though I am sure Han always felt like it was a deal with the devil.

I imagine there's much nastier figures in the underworld than Jabba. The Hutts are mostly interested in commerce, or at least their own particular brand of it. Han was mostly a free agent or entrepreneur, doing business with all kinds of lowlifes willing to pay for restricted items to be moved past Imperial blockades and checkpoints. I imagine the only kind Han wouldn't do business with are slavers (yes, we know Jabba owed slaves, but so far as we know he didn't sell or trade in them.)
One assumes his "deal" with Jabba was probably on a per-shipment basis and it was just that last one that went sour.

Jabba still had uses for Han at one point, at least from their conversation in ANH, Jabba was cutting him a lot of slack. Han waiting 3 years between ANH and ESB probably is what really pissed Jabba off.

Probably. Though it makes you wonder who among his "old debts" he chose to pay off instead of Jabba with that reward money.

In legends, Crimson Jack and his pirates stole the reward Han got, and he never got to pay anyone off. Not entirely sure what Disney's explanation will be. I think the book Scoundrels even referenced some of those Marvel comics too.

Personally I like to think that he lost it all gambling, or in some investment scheme that fell apart.

Yeah, my personal theory for years was he gave the reward money back to Leia/the Alliance. The old EU (legends) handled it in a few different ways, so its all open to interpretation now.

When Han was about to split from Hoth before he heard Luke was missing, he was going to pay off Jabba with *something*.

Good point. I think this is largely forgotten, so maybe Han did still have the reward money. I don't remember if Lucas ever said one way or the other, all I remember is what the comics and novels said, which weren't canon anyway.

Han tells Jabba he will pay him triple after being released from carbonite, so maybe Han had been saving up. Or Han was just trying to talk his way out..who knows.

Well we don't actually know that he *had* the money at that point. Paying off Jabba could have first required finding a way to make the money, which probably means running jobs, hence having to leave the rebellion. You'd think if he ad the cash on hand, it'd be a simple matter of dropping it off, not need to make a big fuss about leaving, possibly for good.

My read was that paying off Jabba was just an excuse. It might well have been a simple matter of dropping off the cash, although there was the complication that by then there was a bounty out against Han. It would involve leaving, but maybe it could have involved coming right back after making things right. The real reason Han was about to split possibly for good was because he didn't know how to handle the feelings he was beginning to have for Leia.

None of that addresses the basic logical problem of why did he wait 3 years and a near miss with a bounty hunter (presumably a much more competent one that Greedo) to decide he ought to actually pay that debt.

The only reasonable assumption for me is that he either blew the reward money almost straight away and/or used it to pay other more pressing debts (he did after all say "old debts", and the one with Jabba seems decidedly recent.) And that yes, while leaving Hoth may in part have been spurred on by his increasingly tempestuous interactions with Leia, it's clearly not meant to be a pretence in and of itself. From the way he spoke to Rieekan on the matter it's clear he was being earnest.

I doubt Han had any time for scams and such with the Empire up the Rebels asses after the first Death Star blew up. The comics contradict that theory as well.

"A death mark's not an easy thing to live with." Truer words were never spoken! Yep, a real earnest conversation there....

So, if the toys are any indication..

The thing attached to the front of the Falcon could be a small fighter, or some kind of small ship.

I think the real question is how will Lando pronounce Han's name. I always found it amusing that once they landed on Cloud City everyone started pronouncing it Han instead of Hon.

On one of the covers for a tie in novel the crease between the parts is very noticeable. It seems noticeable on everything except the in movie model

Here is an entire EW page on tie in books
