Scruffy-looking untitled Han Solo film thread

I remember him being good in 'The Martian' but that's such a vastly different role from Lando that I don't have a very good handle on how well he may or may not be able to Billy Dee up the joint (yes, I have now made "Billy Dee" a verb!)

Does anyone more familiar with his body of work have any particular recommendations worth checking out?
 
Making such a film makes a certain amount of sense since they already have a Millennium Falcon set and all that for the main series of films.
 
I'd prefer to see stories focused primarily on original characters, like Rogue One, since I think Star Wars as a brand is big enough to sell itself without needing any particular character in it, but Disney seems to be handling things well so far, and I really like Donald Glover, so I'm cautiously optimistic about it.
 
My deal with Donald Glover is that every time you see him he only seems to be promoting how great he is. Like how aggressive he was about trying to play Spiderman in the Marvel films. He's an auteur trying to work in franchises that have no room for individual egos.
 
Was he aggressive about trying to play Spider-Man? I remember a few comments from him that he would love to do it, but that is about it.

Where are you getting any of this? Are you referring to the campaign started by social media, which he had no part of other than to say he'd love the opportunity when interviewers started seeking him out to ask about it? And even then, he demonstrated exactly the opposite of what you described by saying things like, "Of course, I would always be honored to play Spider-Man. But I just want the Spider-Man movie to be dope, that’s all I want?"

Cause if that's what you're referring to, I think you have most of your facts wrong.
 
I saw him on like Twitter or Insta with Yvette Nicole Brown where she was campaigning for him. Just kinda rubs me the wrong way when actors do that. Like when Sean Young went crazy to be Catwoman. People get cast and don't get cast for a reason, and it just makes me think that any actor who takes it public is going to be a diva on set. Egos on set interfere with production and bring down the final quality of the film. In a property like Star Wars or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where it's driven by the studio, actors shouldn't have that kind of voice in the production.
 
Even if your misguided views of him were correct (though they're not; he's about as humble as they come in interviews), Donald Glover was first and foremost a celebrated and award-winning writer, as well as director, producer, rapper, comedian, and actor. So yeah, even if his ego was anywhere close to what you think it is, it's actually well-deserved considering his resume. He's hardly just an actor.

You should also really watch Atlanta sometime before you continue to (mis)judge him.
 
I am familiar with and a fan of Glover work, from 30 Rock on. He is an author. I have reservations about that because Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe already have captains at the head of the studio. When you get someone who is used to having their vision respected and their voice being the one everyone listens to, there are problems. That goes for more than just actors. See the controversies that ended up surrounding Joss Whedon and Edgar Wright.

And BTdubs, there's no such thing as a well-deserved ego.
 
That's disappointing. I was really hoping for Sana Solo in this movie. I think that would have been a great story, fake marrying the girl for a con.
 
Interesting. I've been reading Aftermath (meh) and in a brief interlude, Han and Chewie are contacted by a woman from their pre-Rebel days named Imra. I wonder if Clarke will be playing her, or if she'll be someone entirely new.

This doesn't necessarily mean Sana is off the table. They're not saying what Clarke's role will be, only that she will "round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures."

For all we know she could be in a supporting role, maybe even an antagonist. She can certainly do an the accent they usually like for Imperial officers.

I think by this point Star Wars has grown out of the idea that they can only have one female character per movie, so there's no reason to just assume Clarke is the love interest.
