Scruffy-looking untitled Han Solo film thread

Teller was great as the redneck friend in Footloose and alright in a few other roles I've seen him in. He just isn't a terribly compelling or sympathetic leading man and the attempts to force him on the audience are getting annoying.

Is Ingruber going to want to make a career of playing younger versions of Harrison Ford characters? Will we be revisiting Young Indiana Jones sometime soon, as well?

Kor

I don't know if they'd pull the story of the winning of the Millenium Falcon from Lando Calrissian gambling, but it is possible. But then they'd need a young Lando as well as a young Han.
I'll be very surprised if this movie doesn't have a young Lando in it anyway.

I found a clip on YouTube of Anthony Ingruber playing a younger version of Harrison Ford's character in The Age of Adaline.

He certainly looks and sounds enough like Ford, but would Disney rather have an actor imitating Harrison Ford playing Han Solo, or an actor playing Han Solo?

It's a long way from from playing the lead in a major motion picture, but that clip is certainly more promising than what I've seen of the fellows on the shortlist.

It is hard to say how Ingruber would do with a whole movie, but I'd still like to see him try. It'd be refreshing for a recast character to still actually kinda look and sound the same.

Wow, this guy should have played Kylo/Ben in TFA.

I'm sure he auditioned (it sounds like Disney's gone through tons of different actors for this) but I doubt he was ever seriously considered. Oh well.

After watching that movie clip with Ingruber, I'm more and more convinced he should have at least been given serious consideration. Much like Brandon Routh and Carl Urban in their respective updated roles (Superman/Trek), he's got the mannerisms, vocal cues and facial expressions down pat. He looked like Ford did waaaaay back in the day when he was doing small roles.

While I'm all for a fresh face getting a shot at in a Star Wars movie, Han Solo is SO iconic, it's hard to imagine anyone but Ford in the role. Someone like Ingruber could keep that image alive...

But then you could make the argument that if they use Ingruber, the focus would be too much on HIM and not the character he's playing. So why not go with some other young actor who could expand on the role a little and give us Has Solo in his formative years, rather than a fresh-faced version of the SAME character we know and love...

Yes, but that's kind of the whole point of making a Young Han Solo movie (which I think is a terrible idea, btw). People will be going into it expecting someone who looks and acts like Ford. They can cast a very good actor, but if he doesn't look or fit the part, people won't be pleased.

I personally think they should simply avoid all of these problems by making Han a woman. Or black.

^It also worked in the prequels (once of the few things that did) with Ewan McGregor who looks almost nothing like Alec Guinness and yet managed to play the character to a tee.

Sometimes I think a close physical match can be more of a hindrance since you'll tend to focus on the little differences rather than the similarities and it can become distracting.

Ultimately they don't need someone who can pull off a Harrison Ford impersonation, they need someone who can sell a young Han Solo performance, which are not the same thing.

No list of contenders for the role of a young Han Solo is complete (or serious) without the inclusion of Anthony Ingruber, who can not only do the best Harrison Ford impression I've ever seen but is also a solid actor who could carry the role if the studio actually gave it to him.

Well it sounds like the frontrunner right now is this Alden Ehrenreich guy. And I have to say, of all the options he does seem to have the closest resemblance to Ford.

In fact with shots like this, it looks like he could almost pass for a young Deckard as well.

I agree Kor. Hes also not the greatest actor just a good impressonist. Should they hire an impressionist to play a younger version of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia etc.?

Did you see his scenes in The Age of Adaline? He's a working actor with some real talent who can carry scenes by himself, not just a good celebrity impressionist.
