So do I. I'm not sure how popular my opinion on the TWOK enhancements, but I do think they were an improvement on an already astounding design aesthetic.

Well...other than the chair covers. Hated them.

Just another WIP project before bed...

Okay, I know this is like sooooo old of a post To be responding to, but like, I dong even know the terminology, what is the medium you are using?
Is it computer graphics and 3 d printing?
Awsome looking stuff though even if I'm not sure what I'm looking at! :)

First, I've had an Akita/Alaskan Malamute mix, and he led to our getting a purebred Akita once Oreo died. Obi (Obi-Wan, my Brother named her) was her name. They were both among the best dogs I've ever known.

About the shuttle...that's all digital. It's a 3d model rendered (computed by the software and hardware) using software that uses Physically-Based light and material algorithms to give photorealistic results.

In this particular case, the modeler was 3ds Max by Autodesk and the rendering software was Iray+ by Nvidia.

The most recent image of the TMP chair backs is also 3ds Max, but the renderer is V-Ray by Chaos Group. The reason I switched the rendering software is that V-Ray is more universal, and I'm hoping to sell some digital models on sites like Turbosquid and CGTrader.

The rank pins that I've posted (like in my Avatar) are also all digital, rendered in iRay, which is different from Iray+ and is built into 3ds Max but uses the same concept. They will eventually be 3d printed and cast in silver, brass, and bronze.

Gee, I oil paint.:sigh:
Okay, "cast" means what?
To me, born in the late 1800, (yes, eighteen hundreds, not a typo) it seems, to cast something is where it is pressed into sand.....
What pray tell does it actually mean now?:ack:

Sort of! It will be printed and then I'll use the lost-wax method of creating the metal versions, just as with precious jewelry or bronze statues.

I used to oil paint, but I just don't have the room for it, anymore. Not to mention my cats wouldn't allow it.

Count me as a fan. The various wall greebles help break up what was otherwise a somewhat monotonous space, and shifting the science station allowed for better two-shots of Kirk & Spock without resorting to awkward angles or dramatic chair swiveling.

The move put Spock where he was originally. Indeed, Uhura and the Comm station should have been between the turbolifts from the first moments of TMP, as that's where she had been for the run of TOS. It actually wasn't until TUC that she got put back behind the Captain's chair where she started.

She was still off to Kirk's left in TUC. But when Meyer reshuffled the bridge, he moved the turbolifts out to the sides, and shifted Science and Communications in. While it almost certainly violates the dimensions of the bridge dome as laid out in TMP, it lets you get this beautiful shot of everybody at the end of the film:

Even I need to admit that it's a beautiful set and a gorgeous bridge, I can't get beyond the physics of it and the filming model. Had they done something with the bridge dome on the model, I may have been able to accept this arrangement more.

Even still, the TWOK incarnation is and will always be my favorite. There's just something about the vertical doming curve of the walls and the shapes of the consoles that fascinate me.

I'm not fussed about not getting everyone in shot. The TMP layout just feels functional. I'm not 100% sure where the exec officer sits though?

LOL he doesn't... He better Earn his spot. Also not too many Execs are just Execs...at least historically in Trek. Spock was the XO on the TOS Ent (pulled double duty)...That's why Kirk just doubled Decker's duty (and because he was getting pissy with Kirk).

Well I suppose there are stations on the bridge that are clearly manned by standing crew and in most cases the xo and captain would not pull bridge duty together but even so, they should at least have a deck chair in a cupboard for him...

Public Service Announcement:

For those of you who know my Shapeways shop, PLEASE do NOT order my TOS chairs there, anymore. I'm pretty much leaving them there for promotional purposes at the moment. Other options will exists elsewhere, soon.

To Michael, I know that direct selling on this site is not allowed, and I totally respect that. My issue is that someone bought two of my 1:6 scale TOS chairs last night and I kinda really wish they hadn't...not from Shapeways. I don't know if those were TrekBBS members or not. I would just like to prevent TrekBBS members form purchasing from that shop, in the future.

In other news, my FDM printer will be set up tonight (FINALLY!!!). My DLP printer will be set up somewhere around the end of next week.

Great news about your printers. And, rather belatedly, I love those faux-suede chairs! I wonder if I can get work to spring for a full size one...?

As soon as I deal with this (I've gotten the feeling that people don't understand the full extent of what I'm dealing with):

Yes, there is a table that I had designated as my 3d printing table in the foreground. Kinda hard to tell what's what.

Well, as of today, the entire basement, nay, the entire house is mine to do with as I please.

Time to get a dumpster.

I'm no neatnik, but there comes a point...or so I thought.

Being socially inept, myself, I hope that was joking. I've been dealing with a difficult ex that refuses (refused) to leave my house. This was THEIR mess that I've been requesting to be cleaned for years. For the last couple of weeks I've been dealing with health issues, and finally, last night, an attempt on my life (which is the reason I now have a house to myself).

I really do apologize for taking so long at this. There have been many complications beyond my control.

There is crap piled a foot high on the floor of that basement. I need to bring in a dumpster to get rid of most of it, though I will be sweeping off that table and setting up my printers on it before the entire basement is cleaned. I cannot set my printers up on the main floor because of my cats who happen to love to mess with things that move on their own.

I'm sorry if I've offended people.

D'oh! Yes, it was a freaking joke. Sorry, read my previous post and realize I'm not entirely in the right mind right now. :ack:
