Indeed! That was quite a freaky Norman-Bates coming out party for Pete at the beginning of the first episode. It seemed that these last two episodes, especially the first of them, had a lot less comedy and a lot more real drama, than the rest of the series. In some cases, it almost felt like they tacked on some satirical dialogue because they thought they had to, and it didn't really fit. I did like these episodes, but I think I understand why some people felt let down-- I think it was because there was a feeling of anticlimax because of the structure. There was a ton of exposition (luckily they used a lot of actual flashbacks with the dialogue) spread out over two episodes, and then there was a lot of where-are-they-now scenes afterwards. Basically, the entire series was structured like a slasher movie, but spread out over thirteen hours, so it kind of felt like listening to a 75rpm record played at 33 1/3.
I liked it, though. I joked at the beginning that everybody would be a killer, and that almost turned out to be true, but I'm glad Hester turned out to be the main Red Devil. She was my favorite of the Scream Queens (if you don't count Gigi as a Scream Queen). It was all very complex, but the explanations seemed to hang together well. And there were still some hilarious moments among the long-winded exposition, such as bringing in the Chanels' parents and the goodbye scene between Chad and Denise. And, of course, the slo-mo arrest of the Chanels by the male strippers.
All in all, I think it was a great season. I hope we get more, but I'm kind of pessimistic.
