Scott Pilgrim Vs The World Discussion Thread

^ Yeah, I've been getting the same style of annoying ads for Lost season six, but not Scott Pilgrim.

Either way, I'm pumped to see the movie!

A+

The most creative movie of the year. Michael Cera manages to be heroic in the end and the rest of the cast is pitch perfect. If you love boy meets girl, epic fights, bass duels and old school gaming, you will love this movie.

I want to see it again.

I'm actually not sure how to do polls (sadly) so just give your thoughts and state if you enjoyed or not with your post.
Click on "Thread Tools" just above your post and there's an option to add a poll.

Saw this yesterday and enjoyed it. It was fun and way over the top. It was nice to see amime-style fight scenes brought to life. Great all-star cast too. I plan to check out the source material when I can.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in it? I'm so there!
She is indeed.

I was also quite impressed with Ellen Wong as Knives Chau.

Saw it last night. Loved it.

Met or exceeded all my high expectations despite building them up for over a year and a half or so.

So, was this all of the books compiled into one movie or just a few of the books with more for another film?

All 6 books into one movie. There's not currently any more source material for any other movies and it sounds like Bryan Lee O'Malley is not writing any prequels/sequels for at least a while, if ever. I don't think the film is doing financially well enough so far for the studio to even be interested in more anyway.

As much as I love Scott Pilgrim, I think that's the way it should be. It'll be exciting to see what he does next. I'm hoping for something a little more quiet and contained like Lost at Sea, personally.

It wasn't all six books into one film...this was an adaption of the first five volumes with almost all of volume three gone and an altered ending that was suggested and approved by O'Malley.

Well, right, it's not a direct translation of the 6 books into one film. It's an adaptation of all 6 books into one film. Some parts are compressed, some parts are new, some are modified, etc. A lot of concepts from Volume 3 make it into the movie, just not necessarily in the exact same way.

Volume 6 was being written as they were filming, so the deviation is especially strong there... But, the comics and the movies are telling the same basic story. The endings are a bit different... But, perhaps not as much as you're suggesting.

I never suggested anything...I just stated that there was a different ending that they chose to use in the film that O'Malley suggested to Wright and Becall and volume six as you said was being written at the time they were filming so they couldn't use everything from the book. O'Malley has also said that Scott is complete as of the volume six finale and there won't be any more.

That's the good thing about creator-controlled stories like Scott Pilgrim. They allow the story to have a genuine ending, as opposed to most comic books.

It's also why animated adaptions can work out better in that they also can give us actual finales instead of "The adventure goes on", like the 1992 X-Men cartoon and X-Men Evolution had real endings (well, EVO more than TAS).

Saw this as a date movie, knowing nothing about it going in. I found it hugely entertaining and surprisingly sweet. I liked how it started off mostly grounded in reality (stylish touches aside), then went completely nuts starting with the first fight scene. In a lesser movie, it would have been an absurd tone shift, but what preceded it was just enough off-the-wall that it worked.

I can understand if it's not doing that well at the box office, though. It's a tremendously geeky movie and your average moviegoer isn't going to "get it." I also remember only seeing one trailer for it and it didn't even hint at any of the weirdness of the actual movie, it was just something about Michael Cera fighting a girl's exes. Yeah, lots of fun there. :p

I don't know what the deal is, but it seems like the marketing for this movie was really misguided.

Anyway, I do highly recommend it, especially as a date movie, and even if you don't know anything about the source material (I sure didn't.) It was a lot of fun.

I was supposed to it tonight but my friends bailed on me to see "The Expendables" instead so hopefully will see it next weekend.

Oh, you haven't even seen the film yet. Now I understand, you were pulling your information from interviews, reviews, etc.

You're not wrong, but maybe you'll see where I'm coming from after you see the film. But, maybe not. Maybe you will still want to nitpick the details which are certainly there.
