Say it..DAMMIT!!!

"I didn't mean to say that the Enterprise should be hauling garbage. I meant to say that it should be hauled away AS garbage!"

Laddie, don't you think you should... rephrase that?

"If I jumped evertyime the lights went off here, I'd end up talking to myself."

Among my favorites:

"Captain. I believe I speak for everyone here Sir when I say to hell with our orders." (Data)

Which brings to mind:

"if I were human I believe my response would be 'Go to Hell.' ... If I were human"

"Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning" - Kirk quoting Peter Pan :)

Of course, I should have mentioned the first one ;) But there are so many good quotes from Spock.

Generations:
"Ohhh shit!" -Data

First Contact
"I think I speak for everyone here when I say...to hell with our orders" -Data

Insurrection:
"Saddle up...lock and load" -Data
"Manual steering column...We're through running from these bastards." -Riker

Sisko:
"We're going to retake Deep Space Nine!"
"I lied, I cheated.... "
"Curzon once told me that the only people who can really handle the Klingons, are Klingons...get me Starfleet Command!"

Kira:
"He's not sure he's coming back"

Dukat
"Not everything...he's letting me know he'll be back"

Nog:
"We're going to make the Dominion sorry they ever set foot in the Alpha Quadrant"

Just a few of my favourites.

"The word, sir?"
"The word is 'no,' I am therefore going anyway"

"I take this mission very seriously. It is you I take lightly"

"Maybe life is a dream"

"This is how I define 'unwarranted'"

"You're bluffing."
"Vulcans never bluff."
"No. No, I don't suppose they do."

"Oh, him? He's harmless. Part of the free speech movement at Berkeley in the sixties. I think he did a little too much LDS."

I read thru every post with that line in my head-and you posted it!:klingon:

"Sir! I am not a merry man!"-Worf

"At last-a question..."-Guardian of Forever

"You said you wanted me to tell you a story."-T'Pol (i always think of 2 petulant little boys when I see this scene)

"I will have to return before five o'clock. I Love Lucy is on tonight."-Mestral

"You've always done it. You did it before and you'll do it again."-Q

There are so many.......

I have to disagree. I teach 10th grade History, and I am utterly amazed at how history has no bearing in this current generation. If I were to use "rosebud" in a quote or, "STELLLA!!", they would look at me with lost expression. But the few times I have done Khan over the years, they kids no immediatly it is Kirk...
Since you're a teacher, then, I hope you view it as an opportunity to educate them on the classics of American cinema, rather than a reason to piss and moan about the stupidity of our nation's children.

Fine, it's a measure of cultural ignorance, then. But it still stands that I hope RobertScorpio is seizing the opportunity rather than whinging about it on a messageboard.
Personally I hope you both learn proper use of the English language prior to criticizing or teaching. When you are typing, the misspelled words are underlined in red. That is your first clue. :vulcan: If you are still not sure, may I suggest using the EDIT features?
I used bold to highlight your improper wording.

Whinging, as in 'to whinge', is a real word. It is synonymous to but not a mispelling of whining, 'to whine.' :)

Nomad: "That unit is defective. Its thinking is chaotic."
Spock: "That 'unit' is a woman."
Nomad: "A mass of conflicting impulses."

^ Surely that's not real dialogue? :wtf:

Unfortunately it is. There's also a quote by Spock, from the same episode, on how he can't understand the female ability to evade a direct question (already mentioned here, I think). Poor Uhura got some abuse in that one.

Scotty and friend getting drunk.

"What drink is that?" (or words to that effect!)

"It's green..."

My other favorite on the subject is from Elaan of Troyus, again where Spock made some comment about the lack of logic in her actions.

Kirk: "Mr. Spock, the women on your planet are totally logical. That is the only planet in the galaxy that can make that claim."

The sexist dialogues--but seriously, you should try to understand it in the context of the period. It wasn't written in 2008 as a political statement. It's unfair to judge based on contemporary values. It can, however, help us to appreciate how far our values have traveled since then.

Also? That kind of prejudice is still very much a part of contemporary cultures in many parts of the world. Unfortunately.

Point is, politically correct or not, 1968 or 2008...is it any less true either way?
