Sarek will be in the show! Played by a gentleman named James Frain (I'm unfamiliar with him). I'm pretty excited to see Sarek again.

Personally I was hoping for an entirely new cast, without previous characters, Perhaps Sarek's appearence will be a brief one shot like McCoy on TNG's first episode.

Surprised, Fuller mentioned Amanda Grayson but they wanted to leave out returning characters for this first season, but things have obviously changed.

Very glad, another Brit I see! Wonder if they asked Ben Cross? Or will James speak with an American accent?

Also some bad news that will surely upset people. EW is reporting that DSC's premiere date got pushed back again. No official word on a new date. They're speculating the fall. I'm not going to freak out over this just yet, but at this point, shit why not just bring back Fuller then?

You cannot hide the Discovery 10 years before the TOS from a crucial character like Sarek especially if there is a heavy diplomatic element in the show on peace talks between the klingons and humans. So I'm OK with this. But I could enjoy seeing other TOS characters from the main cast as well from episodic characters

I like it. My personal preference was to have a mix of original characters and established characters, so I'm all for it.

This looks promising, and my interest in the show just incremented. I'd also like to see Gary Graham back as Soval, possibly in the same diplomatic entourage. It might be fun to see Soval as the wizened, senior member of Vulcan's diplomatic team, with Sarek being groomed to replace him.

iIf done well I like it when they bring old characters back. Gives a sense of continuity, I wonder if they're plannng on using any more? Enterprise actors maybe with old-age makeup would be cool?!

They did say this was 10 years before TOS specifically so they could play in that timeframe.

He's a good actor, glad to see him in the production. I'm a little disappointed that they are using TOS characters though. I hate small world syndrome. The galaxy is a big place, not everything has to be connectedto the same small group of people.

Yeah, kinda expecting this since it's now four months for release and we haven't even got a trailer. Oh well, rather they take their time and get it right than rush it out.

Totally agree with you it sucks they canned Fuller for not keeping the schedule and then delayed production anyway

I do find it amusing that CBS has sounded the horns about their casting of Sarek today, yet left the announcement of the show's second delay to EW.

At this point the release date is so far in the future (in my mind) that now I'm just eagerly awaiting cast photos and a real trailer. I'll pick up my "Can't wait!!" feelings again in the summer.

I mean, it's only one character out of the whole cast. I think you need at least 3 or 4 to form a proper circle for said circle jerk.

I doubt it's so much that they left the announcement to EW as it leaked to EW and they announced Frain as Sarak to try and distract from the delay with positive news.

I don't know if this will stay up considering this is a family forum, and I know I've disagreed with you on a few things @Balok's Decoy, but that is hilarious.
