Sadly official: The Simpsons may never die

I mark Season 13 as the last of the great seasons (Poppa's Got A Brand New Badge, the season finale, was a classic); since then it's more sporadic, but it can still produce gems. I enjoy it; it's comfortable, like an old blanket.

I was born in 1987, so I remember when the show was Public Enemy #1 and my parents didn't want me to watch it. How far we've come.

Your parents may not have wanted you to watch the show but by the time you were old enough to watch and comprehend the show you were way too old for it to have been Public Enemy #1. It was only that for maybe the first two seasons.

Granted, they've never actually had him appear on screen like they did with Clinton.
The closest was in one episode where Homer is going through various photos of stuff he's done, and shows one of him punching former president Bush, then flips to the next photo, him punching out "current President Bush" (with Homer punching Dubya in the Oval Office).

The more I think about it, the odder Bush Jr.'s relative absence seems considering the many Presidents that have appeared...

George Washington "'I want to help you, George Washington'? Even your dreams are square."
Thomas Jefferson "I know why you're here. The Lincoln Memorial was too crowded."
Richard Nixon "But I'm not dead yet. In fact I just finished an article for Redbook." SATAN:"Hey, I did a favor for you." "Yes, master."
Gerald Ford "Hiya."
Jimmy Carter "He's history's greatest monster!"
Ronald Reagan "This is time I could be working, mommy."
George Bush Sr. "Now apologize for the tax hike."

And even a few also rans...

"That janitor looks like Walter Mondale."
"Yeah... looks like...":guffaw:

I thought that last one was John Travolta?

I remember in the episode where they go to Australia, a US official mentioning that they would be boarding a helicopter over to the USS Walter Mondale, a laundry ship. :guffaw:

If given the option of terrorism or a new episode of the Simpsons, I choose terrorism every time.

Wow, I had no idea you were one of those type of posters on here. :(

Well I was going to give your family a bunch of Simpsons DVD box sets for Christmas, but now I'll have to send them anthrax instead.

Wow - I'd be careful with what I said. I work for an internet security firm and we would alert the authorities to a message like that.

So your firm wastes law enforcement resources on obvious and harmless jokes? What's their name so I can make sure never to recommend them to anyone?

As far as the topic goes, I'm glad to hear it. 'The Simpsons' may not be up to the quality it once was, but I still find myself enjoying it most of the time, and that's all that really matters.

Damn you're young  First it was The Simpsons, but Beavis and Butthead really drew a lot of ire. Married...with Children was on the verge of being canceled until some religious nut-ball brought the "degenerative nature of the program" to the public spotlight, ratings soared, and the show went on into infamy. Stupid whackos.

^I still love The Simpsons despite it having the very model of the stereotypical television Dumb Dad. I can see past that and see that The Simpson family is a lot more positive a portrayal of a family than you'd get in a lot of American shows.
