Sadly official: The Simpsons may never die

Unfortunately The Simpsons really stopped being funny and socially relevant by the time Bush came into office. I still don't understand one thing: the show made fun of Bill Clinton off and on for 8 years, but they almost NEVER touched George W. Bush. This is coming from a show produced by a man who is staunchly liberal. Thankfully Family Guy filled that gap.
They probably thought George W does enough by himself, so making fun of him would be redundant.

If given the option of terrorism or a new episode of the Simpsons, I choose terrorism every time.

Wow, I had no idea you were one of those type of posters on here. :(

Well I was going to give your family a bunch of Simpsons DVD box sets for Christmas, but now I'll have to send them anthrax instead.

Wow - I'd be careful with what I said. I work for an internet security firm and we would alert the authorities to a message like that.

Oh c'mon, clearly you can see the context of the WHOLE conversation and know that nothing sinsiter is going on. Jesus Christ.

Not heavy metal fans, I take it....

The Simpsons has been on so long now, that it will be hard to imagine a world without it on the air. Even when the show ends, we'll probably see The Simpsons in syndication forever.
Isn't it second only to Gunsmoke now as the longest running US series of all time? They'll try to beat at least that record before they end the show.

I haven't watched a new ep in years, but if people still enjoy it, as others have said, more power to em.

Eh, that's what we said about M*A*S*H* in 1983, the shows that still holds the record for the greatest number of viewers for a series finale.

Life went on.

Simple solution for all:

If you still like it, watch it.

If you don't, STOP WATCHING IT. Don't turn it on, don't come back here to bitch about it, let the people who do though enjoy it in peace.

I still, after all these years on this board do not understand the fanboi desire to whinge and bitch.

It's probably, at it's root, the same thing that caused you to enter the thread, read it, and whinge and bitch about the whinging and bitching. Then again, it's also probably the same thing that's making me whinge and bitch about you whinging and bitching about fanboy whinging and bitching.

It's a vicious cycle. :(

I think it was simple hyperbole followed by a joke. I highly doubt Aragon has any intentions of sending his family anthrax in the place of the Simpsons DVD sets. ;) I'm all for being sensitive to true threats/creepiness on the internet, but that shouldn't be at the expense of a little joking around.

Anyway, moving on! Back to our regularly scheduled discussion of The Simpsons, which I'm finding far more entertaining than any episode of the show. :D

I dunno...I must say that I am terrified to check my mail.

'The Simpsons' can be timeless but the comedy writing HAS to stay funny. If the show quality has declined, all they need to do is get some better writing talent.

I mark Season 13 as the last of the great seasons (Poppa's Got A Brand New Badge, the season finale, was a classic); since then it's more sporadic, but it can still produce gems. I enjoy it; it's comfortable, like an old blanket.

I was born in 1987, so I remember when the show was Public Enemy #1 and my parents didn't want me to watch it. How far we've come.

They've taken their fair share of shots at him. The one that best comes to mind is when Homer threatens to enlist Bart in the army, where he'll be stuck in "America's next military quagmire. Where will it be? Iran? North Korea? You just never know with Commander Cuckoobananas in charge."

Granted, they've never actually had him appear on screen like they did with Clinton. Off the top of my head, I recall...
* Clinton overturning the results of Lisa's band competition. "You've taught America a valuable lesson, Lisa. If something doesn't go your way, just keep complaining & complaining until your dreams come true." "That's a pretty lousy lesson." "Hey, I'm a pretty lousy president."
* The Halloween special where Kang & Kodos take the forms of Clinton & Dole during the 1996 election.
* Clinton calling the winning Super Bowl team while Al Gore measures for drapes in the Oval Office. (This was back during the impeachment trial.) "Al, do you have to do that now?"
