S3-5: Enterprise & Voyager

It's not a reasonable comparison. I think it's far more likely Daniels was stranded in the 32nd century rather than having a Vulvan lifespan.
My point is that Agent is a title, Commodore is his rank, and Doctor is because he has a PhD of some sort. And I looked at precedent to prove how this is possible.

At this stage, I think we should just agree to disagree, and move on. Otherwise, it's just going to be a case of diminishing returns.

I am not going to agree with you, simply because you want me to.
I do not believe a 32nd century time travel is equitable to a 21st century government agent.
I do not believe Daniels is 120+ years old, more likely maybe 70's or 80's or so?

I'm not looking for you to agree. I'm looking for you to agree to disagree. Big difference.

Last post on this, then we're done: We don't know if Kovich is fully Human, we don't know what the Human lifespan is like in the 32nd Century, it's never touched upon, and I'm sure there's a story there but I don't know what it is.

I am not a "agree to disagree" kind of man.
My version of that is to allow the conversation to change topics. :)
We do know that Kovich is not fully human if he is Daniels, because Daniels told Archer he's not fully human. Futuristic healthcare doesn't matter, our telomeres only allow for a lifespan of about 120 years. So, unless Daniels' is genetically engineered or his "barely there" not-human-ness allows for radically different telomeres...

Understood.

This tangent started off as The Wormhole and I seeing how far each other would take this before one of us would break off. Starting off, I thought he'd only go up to a certain point, he probably thought I'd only go up to a certain point, and we'd both be done with this whenever one of us stopped.

You can keep going if you like, no problem, and I might even come back to this later on, but I've got other things to do and take care of at the current moment. But feel free to have at it.

Why not? We know humans can live to be 140 in the 23rd and 24th centuries. Living to be that old in the 32nd century but in much better shape seems well within the realm of possibility.
Human DNA telomeres dictate a lifespan of about 120 years. I suppose genetic engineering could allow longer, but we know how the people in Star Trek world feel about that.

Quite the contrary, I've some scientists speculate the first person to make it to 150 could already be alive. As time goes on and health sciences improves, life spans will get longer. After all, cave men could only live for about twenty-five years or so before they died of natural causes. The Bible quotes God saying it's only possible for us to live seventy years, yet there are those today who live to be over a hundred.

#1 Does the Bible say people cannot live beyond 70 years, or does it merely mention that people lived on average of 70 years? What verse are you quoting, and what is the general context?

#2 I am talking about human beings in the 2020's. Do you understand how DNA telomeres work? As we age and as our cells reproduce, our DNA telomeres grow shorter and shorter, and this is why our lifespan caps off at about 120. This cannot be changed without genetic engineering. Is there verifiable evidence of the 150-year-old, or is this gossip?

It's a reference to the "three score and ten" line about what a person's lifespan is.

Okay, but people in Star Trek don't live in the 2020s, so why can't their lives be longer?

It was from a book I was reading about nine years ago, where they were talking about how the human lifespan increases as living conditions and healthcare improve, where one scientist who was interviewed in the book expressed the opinion that the first person to make it to 150 has already been born.

#1 I understand, but are you actually citing Scripture, and is this an absolute statement, or just a reflection of people not living long due to the dangers of the times?

#2 DNA doesn't change.

#3 Fair enough and thank you for citing as best you could. In summary, the 150-aged-person was pure conjecture from one scientist?

I'm not religious, I'm just going off what others have said. Like in one sci-fi novel where a human meets an alien who has been observing humanity for a while, the human asks "how long does your species live?" The alien replies "three score and ten, just like your God allows you." Or something else that went along the lines of "modern humans had added a whole extra score to the three score and ten God originally allocated us..."
#2 DNA doesn't change.
Uh-huh, then how do you cope with the fact that Star Trek has shown at least two humans who have lived to be 140?

It was a speculative opinion expressed by a group of scientists.

#1 You're talking about Psalm 90, Verse 10. I linked to the overall chapter so you can read around Verse 10 for additional context. This is not a stated age limit, but more observational, meaning that's just on average how long people lived at the time. Genesis 6-3 suggests that God reduced the human lifespan to 120 years. Modern day scientists who study DNA have discovered that DNA telomeres get shorter and shorter as we reproduce on a cellular level, giving humans a lifespan of 120 years.

#2 The writers of those episodes likely did not know about telomeres or maybe they did and did not care.

#3 From scientists, I only accept scientific fact and theory, not opinion.

I like to think the Federation relaxed its policy on genetic engineering somewhere between DS9 and Future Disco. You can't create Khans, but you can do things like extend the lifespan. There was that Cellular Entertainment Chamber from "In the Cards". And Bashir probably tried to work to have the Federation change its policy.

Haven't they done experiments where they've lengthened the life-span of rodents? So work is already being done on this. Not that I expect to be around to see how wrong Enterprise got 2151. As it is, I expect I'll just barely make it to see how wrong First Contact got 2063.

I don't object to this. If people lived longer, because they figured out how to adjust DNA telomeres, futurism and all that. No probs from me.
