S1 was awesome, S2 is a yawn fest

Starfleet is the military. Claiming it's not military in the 24th Century was just a PR stunt to make Utopian Civilians more likely to want to join it. * Then the Borg and Dominion came and eventually Starfleet realized they had to drop the charade.

* In-Universe: Dropping the TWOK-style uniforms in favor of the TNG uniforms might've even been their way of trying to sell the idea further.

But not a real life military.

She's in the same organization as Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, and every other single Starfleet officer. And I don't recall any of them saying "fuck" to superior officers.

Speaking for me, I never was but my brother and uncles were in the Navy and, well, have you never heard the term "curse like a sailor?". Because they did.

In front of their superior officers?

Having watched all of season one, I didn't see where the gloves came off at any point.

Yeah, a show where the obvious and only explanation* for a command officer being an asshole is that they come from a Universe of Evil People is not being written for adults, no matter how they light the sets.

Season 2 was always planned...

That's not so clear.

*That's right, obvious. Just about everyone guessed it.

I think it would be fun if they actually said things like "Oh shit, here's these fucking Klingons acting up again, open a fucking channel, let's hear what they want this time"

Or maybe not

Damn, my boss was from the Mirror Universe all this time and I never knew it!

Lorca, channeling Samuel L. Jackson: "What's up with these motherfucking Klingons on this motherfucking starship?!"

I think season 2 has been a significant jump in story and character development, and I look forward to each episode.

There were a couple of episodes early on in season 2 that had me pining for more of season 1, but the last 3 episodes have taken the show to new heights for me.

You quoted my comment out of context. I didn’t say “season 2 was always planned”. I said “it was always planned to be different”. They always were going to wrap up the war story in the first season. Fuller’s original plan was even more drastic. He wanted an anthology series, with each season in a different time period and setting and different characters.

They were going for The Douglas Adams Award: "Most Gratuitous Use of the Word 'Fuck' in a Serious Screenplay".

Actually, Reno would rise considerably in my book if she deadpanned JFK: "Well, this fucking fucker is fucked."

Season one was fine if you excise the Klingons. It's much better on rewatch when you skip them. S2 has been great. Better stories overall, and fewer Klingon stories.
