Ryan Church's design, don't mince words, what do you really feel?

And ... I agree, this poll is slanted against the new design.
LOL. I actually like the new design a lot. But I didn't think an " I FREAKIN' LOVED IT" choice would play well. Maybe I was wrong...?

I feel the new design is a good one, definitely one to take us into the future of the past Trek, if that makes sense.:alienblush::alienblush:

Took a bit of getting used to, but now I love it. The sleeker, hot rod-ish lines really appeal to me (especially in the profile view), and I love the bigger, more powerful looking engines.

I even like the blue nacelle caps now. In one of the Trek magazines they said the monochromatic coloring somehow made the ship look more futuristic and "modern", and I have to agree.

I didn't love it from the start, but I didn't hate it either.
When the first image appeared I was sort of skeptical and wanted to see more.

The more I saw , the more I liked so...I think it's a ship worthy of the name Enterprise.

I like it, overall, but the itty-bitty secondary hull looks a little out-of-proportion next to the big saucer and ample nacelles (if you'll pardon the engineering parlance ;)).

I hate the Kelvin, though (any and all versions.) The shuttle deck on top just kills it for me, looks like something they bolted on as an afterthought.

It's interesting that you mention that, since I kinda took the Kelvin-Type to be a refit or uprated Hermes- or Saladin-Class from the original Tech Manual. If that's true, then the module on top could've been simply "bolted on" to the existing hull. Obviously there's more involved though. :shifty:

However, you were probably referring to the real world designers, not the in-universe rationale for the design. ;)

Incidentally, in that Tech manual, one of the Saladin-Class ships listed is the USS Rahman NCC-514. What if the Kelvin were a rechristened Rahman? Perhaps the Fleet used the Rahman as a prototype for a new design, rechristened her Kelvin, and added a leading-zero to her registry to distinguish her. :techman:

I'm sure someone has already commented on this. I'll wait for The Wormhole to show up and rail against the leading-zero again...

I think it's bold without being disrespectful to Matt Jefferies.

It's my favourite part of the new design, frankly.

I wish I could impress your engrams on one of my friends, who said to me, "You bought the toy?! I wouldn't pay money to SEE that piece of crap they're calling the Enterprise, much LESS want to own it!!!"
His tolerance for young minds & fresh ideas has clearly reached it's expiration date.:shifty:

It may help if you had a link or an actual pic in this thread.

Love this pic. It's fantastic. :)

I'm not a fan at all. I don't like how the next starts at the back. I don't like how massive and bulbous the nacelles are. I don't like how the nacelle pylons curve up.

I love both Church's concept (which I haven't seen in this thread, yet) and the ILM-modified version. But Church's concept looks more futuristic to me, though; as if we don't really understand what the hull is made of.

You mean this ...

or this ?

I voted for Option 5: It's a damn good design. Your poll is ridiculously worded to be unfair. Re-do the poll and we can talk.

Both, actually. The windows on the second (and the glow on the first) both look as if they shine through whatever the hull is made of.

Selectively transparent aluminum - a new variant!

Hey- I think it's a damn good design as well.
Can't edit polls, can we?

Little story here, I disliked the first photo I saw of the new Enterprise before the movie came out, but at Target, they already had the toy- one that someone had opened up caught my eye, so I *peeked* inside, and I was like, hey- this ain't so bad...:techman:

I love the curved pylons, but I do kinda wish the nacelles themselves weren't so close together. Seems like they need to be spaced a little more than they are...

Straightening the pylons would have achieved that very thing.
Just sayin'.:vulcan:
