I'm not predisposed to judge any of this fairly. Something I can admit but DSC/PIC bashers can't.

I like some of Disco's music (like when the Red Angel launched at the end of S2) but the main theme doesn't inspire me. It's original music (which is fine) with some Trek bits awkwardly tacked on to the beginning and end. Overall I'd say unspectacular. But hoping for something more from Picard.

Too bad it's not Michael Giacchino
Say what you want about ST09, but it has the Best music of all of Star Trek movies

Woah, woah, woah.
Star Trek movies have a great history of great music. I would easily rate TUC, FC, and TVH above St09.

as i mentioned before, russo’s main theme for discovery is actually just the opening four notes of alexander courage’s TOS theme, the same notes are also heard at the start of TNG’s main titles. so to say trek is tacked on isn’t really fair, it’s baked into russo’s music.

that being said... it is unspectacular and there’s some amazing music in TV these days (GoT, westworld, stranger things) that makes russo’s work feel a little weak, even dated at times. there’s no excusing the halting, obnoxious use of the fanfare at the end of opening titles, but russo has integrated courage’s work extremely well into his scores.
