Rivals 2 is currently airing. The next season of Wednesday is coming.
I've shifted my focus for Doctor Who to older media. I'm looking forward to the 4K release of the TV movie in the states. If that doesn't happen, I'll import it.
Then, it's time to start spending money on Big Finish and hope for the equivalent of the New Adventures to start up again.
There is plenty of Doctor Who to watch.
It's entirely relevant regardless of the length of her appearance because, as I said, not treating her as a numbered Doctor unnecessarily complicates the process of Regeneration on a conceptual level.
So from your perspective each of these is a specific, numbered incarnation of Romana?
That's one of those Doctor Who moments kind of best forgotten about, right?
Certainly makes the Sisterhood of Karn Lady's speech in Night of the Doctor a bit silly.

No, because she hadn't settled on what the final physical appearance of her second form was going to be and was still Regenerating up until the point that she did.
Although the golden glow hasn't faded when we cut away from 15's Regeneration, the framing of what is happening signals that it (the Regeneration) has in fact been completed, and veering away from that by not acknowledging Billie as 16 adds unnecessary complications, conceptually, to what Regeneration is and the way that it has always functioned even through the creative evolutions that have occurred over time surrounding it
But as you previously acknowledged, regeneration is already complicated thanks to the Timeless Child, The Fugitve Doctor, the Metacrisis, The War Doctor, Biregeneration and The Shalka Doctor (now canon in some way).* What's one more wrench in the works at this point?
I use to be frustrated on this point, too (mostly because of the Metacrisis so Davies could "cheat") but I'm over it now. The counting system is all over the place and it doesn't really matter now.
All I care about is whether I enjoy the performances of each incarnation. And I have regardless of the quality of writing.
*I hadn't noticed until just now, but each showrunner has played a part in this and Davies did it both times he was in charge.

I dont view things like the Timeless Children, the Metacrisis, and Bigeneration as complicating what we understand about the concept of Regeneration, but you bringing up the War Doctor does present an angle I'd been overlooking.
My fear, though, is that Billie won't be acknowledged as being an actual incarnation of The Doctor at all, which would unnecessarily conceptually complicate Regeneration in ways that I cant deal with.
If you have been successfully dealing with all the other stuff that Doctor Who has been throwing at us over the last few years then you're doing better than I am.

Maybe, maybe not. I don't see any point in worrying about it now since we have no clue what's going to happen. And again, regardless of the reveal, I'm sure it'll be fine since there are already so many left turns and such.
That's a fair point. They could always be a shapeshifter or maybe they could give them a holographic disguise when they go to a place or time where people aren't aware of aliens. It would also be a way to give the actor a break from the makeup occasionally.
Cons like that have actors from shows that have ended or have left a current show all the time.
At this point they've already thrown in so many complications and twists to the regeneration process that I don't see where one more would be a problem. And there's an easy way to deal with it, all they have to do is just say that she hasn't settled on her final appearance until we see the real 16th Doctor at the end of the whatever holiday special it ends up being or the beginning of the next season's premiere.
Christmas Specials are always (relatively) big affairs. I can see doing everything in house to avoid leaks, and if they still have the VR wall they can be in any location at any time.
As far as scrapping the sets, we all "saw" 10's TARDIS blowing up at the end of his regen cycle, and yet it returned less than a year later for The Doctor's Wife. If BW was determined to keep the major sets available it would be easy to put it in storage for a year or two and put it back together again when it's needed.
She may very well have signed for a season and we wouldn't know. As long as its a good story I don't have any complaints.
I think by Sept/Oct the beeb will start rolling out the marketing for the christmas special, if they actually are doing it this year. And if they're not we should know soon enough.
