They're still shooting stuff for the musical episode, with a location possibly standing in for the Cavern Club. There were some Beatles look-alikes seen going in anyway.

So after they finished shooting with it in the studio in Cardiff they disassembled one of their sets and have sent it off to Malta to be rebuilt over there. The one thing I could think of is that there's supposed to be an episode involving the Roswell crash and this was the UFO but I don't think there's anywhere in Malta that would work as a stand-in for New Mexico.

The area of New Mexico where the supposed crash happened has rolling hills and a lot of high desert trees and scrub vegetation that gets very green during the rainy season. I've seen some areas of Malta (thanks Google Maps!) that could be a respectable stand-in.
Most folks don't realize that the "crash" happened out in the middle of no-where and not really near Roswell at all. It happened not far from the tiny village of Corona. Brazel found the debris on his ranch near the town and drove it all the way down to Roswell.
Doctor Who already did Roswell with the Tenth Doctor in Dreamland.
It's funny how Roswell became the big UFO story. In the 1970s, if it was mentioned at all, it was as a properly explained and identified object. It was not on my radar in the 1970s, though I read everything I could get my hands on about UFOs for a few years. It wasn't until the fake MJ-12 papers that Roswell started becoming the big UFO story in the late 1980s.

Back on the Beatles topic, they were shooting something up on the roof of Newport Market which is interesting to the extent that it looks down onto streets that haven't been redeveloped and could easily pass for the 1960s. Or even 1969 to be specific...

I think a lot of it has to do with Jesse Marcel being much more vocal about it toward the end of his life. He started making waves and so did his son, Jesse Jr. I covered the 1997 Roswell UFO festival for the radio station I was working at, at the time, up the road in Portales, NM. I got to meet Jesse Jr. and he was very adamant about the whole thing.
While I personally don't believe in the story (or UFOs in general), I have to hand it to the people of Roswell. They have certainly turned this into a cash cow for them. Roswell is a small city of about 50,000 that smells of dirt and dairies. The UFO thing brings a lot of money into the community each year, so why not keep the story alive?
Looks like they started shooting Episode 7 or 8 today judging by the director Jamie Donoughue being on set.
