I don't imagine any other actor will ever hold the role as long as Tom Baker did.
If I was being cheeky I'd say that McCoy and McGann were the current Doctor for longer...
Another example of how long it's been: Even though I knew 'Rose' had been leaked in advance by someone in Canada there was no way to I could download it without tying up the house's landline for a day. (These days I can download a 50GB game from Steam in 20 minutes!)
