Unless you're intimately familiar with the sketch comedy characters she played, the background text is of little importance or help.
I always read the background text on these photos to see why the photo was taken. *shrug*

Maybe not a lot. But it doesn't seem wildly unlikely that the small minority of people in the US who watch Doctor Who might have a little more knowledge about British pop culture and the backgrounds of people who star on the show than the average American.
I dunno, I'm Greek and I've not see that show of hers, BUT, I have heard a lot about how her casting in Who was a departure for her seeing as how she is a comedian and had a show called The Catherine Tate Show and all that, featuring characters like this old lady and a schoolgirl, among others. I'd never known, but I learned of it, and only barely, through this show.
So ya know. Not with effort.
Not surprising in the least bit.
Wait, are you saying that Andrew Garfield is playing the next Doctor? Not surprising in the least bit.
Of course, I'm sure someone is pointing to Andrew Garfield and saying Grant obviously is playing The Fourteenth Doctor.
The 2014 christmas special with 12 and Clara, I think. When was Pegg on Dr Who?
The 2014 christmas special with 12 and Clara, I think.
Ah, indeed. I stand corrected! No, Simon Pegg was in the series 1 epsiode "The Long Game."
You're thinking of Nick Frost.
When was Pegg on Dr Who?
No, Simon Pegg was in the series 1 epsiode "The Long Game."
So, Hugh Grant confirmed as the next Doctor, how exciting!
I had forgotten about that. And he contributed to "Doctor Who Confidential"
Fair and respectable.Russell T Davies can not say much about the next series until Jodie and Chibnall are gone. They're still in charge.

I know more about British celebrities from the parody show "8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown" than anything else. Which doesn't help much in the Doctor Who world lolI can't speak for everyone, but here's how it worked for this American:
::Catherine Tate shows up at the end of Doomsday::
Some Brits in this very forum: "Oh no, not Catherine Tate, she's so loud and obnoxious and not funny."
Other Brits in this very forum: "Oh she's hilarious! I love her!"
Me: "Welp, I guess I need to go to YouTube and IMDB and find out who this Catherine Tate person is."
Me, later: "Oh, so she's a sketch comedienne who does characters. Cool. Hope she's good on Doctor Who."
Rinse and repeat similar experiences for Peter Capaldi, Bradley Walsh, John Bishop, Simon Pegg (It was 2005 and I hadn't seen Shaun of the Dead yet), etc.
So, Hugh Grant confirmed as the next Doctor, how exciting!
