Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

It sneaks by because there are bigger fish to fry. No one is going to win an election on a third-tier irritant. Especially if it is an issue that only causes trouble for folks who can't afford it.

This is the problem with the TV licence fee, when you hold a gun to someone head and tell them to pay up or else, then bang on about how great you are..........it's one of the great jokes of the UK.

Like I said earlier, I'm not here to bang on the UK. God knows we have more than enough problems to keep us busy here in the US. Just an interesting discussion about how another country handles its OTA (terrestrial?) offerings.

^^You are ok, the BBC is not the Uk, far from, they are just a media dinosaur corporation stuck 80 years in the past afraid to give up their gravy train which is slowly moving away from them anyway, and that was not helped when in 2024 serious concernrs were rasied by the way the BBC had enforced the Tv licence in the past, with women - particularly vulnerable women - who they found were disproportionally targeted for enforcement action, so this is already a mark against them on the run up to the 2027 review, and a nasty black mark at that.

I read some of that. Pretty disturbing how they handled that particular issue.

Yeah ignore all the other British institutions treating people (especially women) way more appallingly (like the police). You seem to really hate the BBC. It was the same when Saville was brought up, you willfully ignored all the other intuitions that let him get away with it and only care about the BBC?

Seriously what has the BBC done to you?

And we all pay for services that we might have no use for via tax/NI/VAT etc, the BBC just seems to be a weirdly specific thing to fixate on!

Probably because it isn't rolled into other taxes. Plus, it definitely gives them a leg up on competition, collecting $3 billion dollars a year from Brits, whether they want it or not. Then how they abuse their power in trying to collect the fee probably rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

And as mentioned their competition doesn't want the license fee to end and are very happy the BBC takes on the vast majority of public service broadcasting obligations. And are always first in the firing line from the right.

Compared to the previous government's activities the BBC's 'abuse' is a drop in the ocean.

Yeap, and very worring that there seemed to be a push from them to traget woman on the doorstep, which i saw firsthand and actually had to intervene as 2 big brave thugs from Captia on behave of the BBC decided to actually put their foot in the door and stop a 63 year old woman her from closing it on them, as they were almost forceibly trying to get access into her home, and that was only in 2023..........now imagine 2 men trying that on a American's front door.

There is talk on social media that the BBC will make an announcement soon. Which I think could be true. It's not clear if the show will continue. If so, will it continue with Disney? Another platform? Or will it continue on its own? So a definitive announcement will come soon.

I think it will continue with a truncated season 16 that wraps up whatever dangling threads there are. Then it will be put on the shelf for a while.

I'm expecting an announcement that Doctor Who is dead on Disney+, with maybe a one-off special on the BBC in a year or so and an eventual new series with a new co-producer/distributor.

Allegedly there's some news coming this week; possibly for a BBC-only funded Christmas Special, while they explore their long-term options.

But to be honest we'll probably be hearing variations on this claim for months to come!
