Word is the BBC's potential new partners want a more serious approach to the show, a bit like 'Stranger Things' , RTD is fighting to retain the usual camp, and has intentions to stay for at least three more series

Would rarely it be canned than, have them do this. Who wants Doctor Who that isn't Doctor Who. Maybe in the future when it is rebooted it can come back with the proper spirit. Let me guess they probably want the Doctor to carry a gun also and be a proper action hero.
It's me, I'm the one telling him to take his show seriously.
So the partners want the show to be good, and RTD wants to continue his shit which is obviously not been successful or particularly popular with anyone but him (not that some episodes weren't popular, but Disney seemingly dropping the partnership shows what RTD wants is not working very well when it comes to making the show successful).
The BBC being so loyal to RTD is bizarre, are there literally no other people in the entire country, much less the world, with experience willing and able to showrun Doctor Who? He got to do basically whatever he wanted, and it wasn't good enough to keep the show going with probably its best deal ever. At the bare minimum RTD needs to be reigned in, not try to fail upwards (or at least diagonally).
If the money is good, they'll tell Davies to take a hike.
Media has been slowly but surely going to crap the last decade.
The galactic hype for BvS under delivering really took the wind outta fandom's sails.
Not a big fan of DW as I stated earlier, but what I am seeing are that fans are absolutely seething at the new Doctor reveal.
Sorta like how Trek fans would react if Chekov took command of the 1701 permanently.
Nobody knows why or where these loyalties actually come from.
WB hooked JJ Abrams for a total of $150M for five years, didn't produce one piece of media.
Amazon just reupped a contract with Phoebe Waller Bridge, she never produced one show or movie.

Yeah but if recent history* has shown us anything it's that people don't actually want to showrun Who. That's why Moffat stuck around as long as he did, it's why we ended up with Chibnall and it's part of the reason RTD felt he had to come back.

Riiight, so The Rise of Skywalker, Solo, The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew and Andor...they were, what, some kind of hallucination? Presumably the up coming Mando film and Ryan Gosling's Starfighter film are products of my fevered imagination as well.Johnson keeps making things because he's very good at what he does; Brick, Looper, Knives Out, Glass Onion, Poker Face...but because he had the temerity to try and do something different with the franchise and angered a certain section of fanboys he's "destroyed the franchise.", and I say that as someone who has issues with TLJ (but not the sort of issues a lot of fans have) and would say it's the weakest thing he's ever done.
Of course I also know damn well that if a woman had directed TLJ her career would probably be over, but that's a whole other argument!

And it also sets aside the fact that Who's biggest strength is that it can tell a multitude of stories with a multitude of tones. Look at the shift in tone last season from The Devil's chord through to Rogue.
I loved The Well but I wouldn't want every frikkin episode to be The Well.
The trouble I've got with the current variety in tone is that right now the series is like:

[WAY WAY WAY too fantasy] The Story & the Engine
[Too... Bridgerton, I guess] Rogue
So in the last two years, the episodes I've been able to enjoy have been: Boom, Dot and Bubble, The Well, Lucky Day and Interstellar Song Contest. I'm averaging 2.5 a season. I used to like this series!

I used to spend a lot of time on the Doctor Who forum on digital spy and there was one guy who complained endlessly about new Who not being adult enough and trying to appeal to kids.
Turns out he started watching Who when he was a kid. He just didn't care if it still appealed to kids he just wanted it appeal to him as an adult.

It's a shame you haven't enjoyed more. For me the hit ratio is much higher and I've enjoyed most episodes to some extent (even Space Babies!)

I wonder if the incumbent will voice the Doctor or whether they'll go with one of the former Doctors or much like Marvel's What If...get another voice actor to play Ncuti (or whoever)

There's a new movie that's just started shooting, directed by J.J. Abrams for Warner Bros., starring Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey and Glen Powell.
In general, I think Johnson is a good director but he doesn't 'get' Star Wars at all. By the way, there is a large section of people on social media who don't 'like' TLJ and hate the movies and TV series he made.

You can find people online who hate most things if you look.
I mean no disrespect to Jodie when i say this, but when I first saw her Doctor doing her thing, my immediate thought was that she'd make a great Cbeebies Doctor.
Something about her voice and her mannerisms says she'd be magnificent at showing kids how to make a sonic screwdriver out of cardboard and bits of string.
Even covering Daleks in custard and making Cybermen slip on banana peel.
That’s always been an issue for fandoms (see very much Star Wars) but the thing about Who is it was *always* ‘family viewing’ and usually when it’s going wrong it’s because it forgot one of the aspects of that. Is it difficult?
Yes. But that’s what it is. It’s a massive part of it’s identity.
It’s quite easy to make a documentary about a bus ride over an hour. But Michael Palin went around the world in Eighty Days, and I would suggest that was the better television.
Sometimes that difficult bit is the whole point.
The costume didn’t help. (CBeebies would have given her a better one…)
Let’s have ‘Hey Doccy!’ Starring Jodie Whittaker and Colin Baker. They can rope in Justin and Mister Tumble as recurring foils…

BBC will try to hold onto RTD as long as they can. When he does eventually walk away, they'll get on bended knee to beg and coerce Moffat to take over. If they can't get RTD or Moffat, they'll try Chibnall and if he turns them down, BBC will end the show.
