I hope this is one rumor that turns out to be one giant freaking lie.

I completly dislike the guardian of the galaxy film. the film was silly to me. it had unnecessary humor and was extremely marketed to kids with lots of explosions. It will break my heart if star trek sinks to that level so one word to describe if the rumor turns out to be true..GROSS.:barf:

I wont watch.

Personally I got a kick out of GotG, and at 39 (and not for much longer) I don't think I can really get away with calling myself a kid, youthful looks notwithstanding. Yes, it had lots of explosions, but it also had a lot of emotion and good characterization, and if you didn't notice that then you weren't really paying attention.

That said, it's not Star Trek, and Star Trek should not strive to be more like GotG.

I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy quite a bit. Although I don't think Trek should try to emulate it, there are tons of cool, barely-used aliens in Trek which could be featured more to perhaps appeal to GotG fans: Keenser, Science Officer 0718 and Kaysia were the most prominent. If they want anything more crazy, look to the Animated Series: Phylosian plant-people, Verdala ancient magic cat people, Kzinti angry cat people (although legalities probably prevent them from ever showing up), a 50-foot Spock clone and Lucifer himself, who wasn't actually a bad guy. I would LOVE to see them return.

And of course, Kirk loves the Beastie Boys, so there's your soundtrack.

If indeed accurate, then Kudos to Orci for his stance on the matter.

GOTG is a fantastic movie, but Trek 3 doesn't need to strive to be like it (IMO).

Thanks for sharing your views OP.

I am sure that very little actual information is known about the newest film, considering that even the actors have not seen a script yet, there is no director, etc.

I agree, which is why I have never been on the lwhole lets hate orci thing that some do. no one knows what is really going on.

I have heard two rumors. this and orci wanting to use time travel to bring shatner back. I am not a huge fan of both rumors as I dont think trek needs to look to the past but I will take shatner returning in trek 3 over the film been like Guardians of the galaxy.

I was hoping for Star Trek's take on another franchise's 50th bash, The Day of the Doctor. Right down to Spock's homeworld and the majority of his race, suddenly not being no more. But there you go.

For what it's worth, Orci commented on that rumor and said time travel was never considered for Trek 3.

I see but like I said we dont know what is going on. remember when orci, JJ and co all said BC was not Khan:eek: and low and behold BC was Khan:scream:

so we never know but I still rather have the shatner time travel rumor be true than the guardians of the galaxy rumor be true that is how desperate I am.

The humor in "Guardians of the Galaxy" was not unnecessary. The movie is a comedy. Humor is kind of important in a comedy.

I'm not really even sure I know what it would mean to have ST3 be like GotG. Maybe more crazy aliens and strange locales? Or maybe Uhura will suddenly turn green?!

Even if this rumour is true, making Star Trek 3 more like GOTG doesn't mean turning it into a full blown comedy. I would assume that it means more aliens, exotic locations, and lots of crazy shit. You know, exploring strange new worlds. That would work well for a film.

Abramsverse Star Trek is already like Guardians Of The Galaxy, but with poorer writing.
