Rumor: ‘Star Trek 3′ to Feel Like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy

If at the end of "Into Darkness" they started their 5 year mission, then give us an exploration story, 'ala an episode from TOS expanded to movie scope. Romulans, Klingons, starbases...give us this.

As for the Marvel thing...to this day I have no clue why they make so much money. The first Iron Man was entertaining and fun, but it was still mediocre and nothing special. Every Marvel movie since then has been mediocre and nothing special. How on earth do they continue to set box office records? It used to be that a movie needed to be a true spectacle, or something unique to make a lot of money. Nowadays any silly comic book movie is guaranteed to make at least $250m. It boggles my mind.

My guess, and it is just a guess even though I've tried to put some weight behind it, is that they don't take themselves seriously. They're fun and silly, and they know they're fun and silly, and they get people in on the joke, and everyone has a good time.

Heard the rumor too. It would be interesting. IV definitely comes to mind. GOG was a fun and entertaining movie. I know when I go to the movies or pick up a blu ray I do want to have fun and let loose. Don't we all need some good escapism from reality once in awhile? We gots enough bs to deal with from our daily lives sometimes lol.

I was a huge comic fanatic growing up. The marvel films are successful because even though they do stray from the source material at times (which is ok since you taking 50 years+ of comic history n squeezing into single movies) the marvel films do feel as if they jumped out the comics. They have all the ingredients to satisfy.

Im cool if they want to put some GOG feel into the next Trek. As long as they take some notes too on the new planet of the apes films too. Now that would be Trek.

I have no idea about the source material that GOG came from, but I just didn't get the film at all. I found it dull, ponderous, and at times incomprehensible due to low audio levels. Humour? I don't think I laughed once until the baby Groot scene during the end credits.

Clearly the script writers were all in on some kind of joke that went straight over my head.

If GOG is the road Paramount wants to take Star Trek down, it can kiss my ass.

Well there is always the comfort of distinctive individuality, but I am fairly certain that you are not the target audience of Paramount or Marvel. "Mainstream" audiences tend to be the ones who pad executive bonuses, and garner the attention of those designing and producing blockbuster films. Those audiences thoroughly enjoyed GotG.

Emulating GoTG? No, thanks. Taking cues from it, though? That'd be fine. There were some parts in GoTG which, I feel, would go well in a Trek movie; for one thing, I've always wanted to see a movie where our heroes get stuck between two factions.

Wait. Paramount wants the next Trek film to be fun, entertaining, visually interesting, feature a wide variety of aliens and financially successful? Shame on them. Shame. How dare they want to do something like that?

[Comic Book Guy] Worst. Idea. Ever. [/Comic Book Guy]

I too am completely unfamiliar with the source material for GotG, but, I absolutely loved the movie. Once it ended, I found myself wishing I could travel into the future to watch the second and third movie, right away

As to the rumor, I suppose it depends on what exactly they mean (If the rumor is indeed true). There is certainly inspiration that could be taken from GotG.

I mean, TMP seemed to take elements from 2001 and TWOK took elements from Star Wars.

Films take elements from similar films, that's filmmaking.

I, for one, am outraged ;)

There are going to be two sequels?

I will boycott Star Trek 3 based on this rumor.

I'm waiting for the first teaser trailer to be released before dismissing the film as worthless trash that no true fan would ever see.

I have principles you know.
Well, you're obviously not a true fan.

A super duper ultimate mega true fan hates the movie on principle, without ever having seen it, except either by accident for free, or because a friend paid for their ticket and practically forced them to go.

Under pain of death? ;)

I think a balance can be struck between GotG (which had its own source material and a talking racoon) and Star Trek. It doesn't have to be an all in kind of a thing.
