Roberto Orci want both Shatner and Nimoy in Star Trek 3

Re: Roberto Orci want both Shatner and Limoy in Star Trek 3

I don't know. Seeing them on screen again would just make me feel sad for all the time that's passed. Hard as I'd try not to, I'd see Shatner and Nimoy, not Kirk and Spock. I'm also afraid that seeing them will be just as Kirk said in TVH, "You're not exactly catching us at our best." I say they've given enough joy to fans over fifty years. It's time to let it go.

Just as I did not want to see cameos by Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan in Skyfall (another 50th anniversary), I don't want to see cameos of the "original cast". In each case, Bond and Trek, I have enjoyed every iteration (some more than others, but I've seen and liked them all), but I want them to move forward, not backward.

Re: Roberto Orci want both Shatner and Limoy in Star Trek 3

To avoid yet another time travel conundrum, I envision the rumoured Shatner/Nimoy scene taking place in-verse, but years later when Kirk and Spock are now older... More of an epilogue at the end of the movie.. Two old friends looking back on their lives/careers in retrospective. Or it could be done as a prologue, with the two referencing past events that unfold during the heart of the movie...

In this instance, Nimoy would not be playing Spock Prime, but Quinto's Spock as an old Vulcan.

Even though I never met the man, I will likely mourn Shatner's passing like he was a member of the family. Captain Kirk was that important to me during my formative years, more so than my own father.

But I don't want Shatner and Nimoy in these films, I wasn't keen on having Nimoy in Star Trek Into Darkness. Shatner will always be Captain Kirk to me, but his day is over. Pine and Quinto carry the roles now and I want them to strut their stuff without the old guard hanging around.

Re: Roberto Orci want both Shatner and Limoy in Star Trek 3

No matter how successful these films are, to the public at large, Kirk and Spock will always be Shatner and Nimoy. That's not to say people won't accept other actors in the roles -- they clearly have. But when you say "Captain Kirk," people do not think of Chris Pine. They think of William Shatner. And likely always will.

Given the enormous recognition that these two have among the public, and the fact that their cameos combined with the 50th anniversary would generate enormous buzz, both positive and negative, I find it very likely the cameos will happen.

That "Deadly Years" idea someone posted months ago might make for a fun prologue where we see a few minutes of Shatner and Nimoy before they're cured and become Pine and Quinto before the title card, but more than that? No thanks.

Probably the ONLY way their appearance could be justified, both "in-universe" and in real life. But I'd still rather not have them there.

If the crew is going to age, then it would be justified in a way, but if one takes the next logical step, then Nichols goes in for Saldana and Takei for Cho. That makes it all seem contrived.

And if it was just Shatner and Nimoy, how weird would it be to have them in as their real aged characters beside the "age-enhanced" Pegg, Cho, Saldana, and Urban?

Nah. Doesn't even work there.

That would make for a nice little gag/homage combo.

"Gag" as in what version of the word? ;)

Nah. Doesn't even work there.

Just have it be something that only affects Kirk and Spock.

Something like the above would be fun as separate promotional material for the film. A fifteen minute webisode, that would be basically the last fifteen minutes of "The Deadly Years" with some tweaks.

That's actually not a half bad idea...

MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Oh, God. Yes!

Shatner and Nimoy on screen again? Together?

Oh, how I wish De Kelley was still alive...

Re: Roberto Orci want both Shatner and Limoy in Star Trek 3

People like JJ are everything this franchise needs precisely because he will never do a movie just for the star trek fans...I suspect he doesn't even bother reading what fans or haters say online...Orci on the other hand interacts way too much with the fanboys over trekmovie and I never liked that. Granted, he interacts to defend himself and his movies for the most part but again, he's still human.. and no one likes getting criticized...

JJ was aware of all the lens-flare blowback. Don't assume he's oblivious to it. Also don't assume that Orci would do things purely for fan-service. If Orci wants to do it, and fans want to do it, it's probably more of a coincidence than Orci specifically wanting to please the fans. Orci seems to want to get involved in the flamewars just for the drama. If he thinks along the way he'll smother all criticism, he's deluded.

As to having the guts to try something different, I've got no problem with that, but it doesn't mean it's better because it's different. It still has to win me over, and I didn't like most of JJ's ideas, nor what is attributable to Orci's writing.

Could be a good tie in for the next film, something akin to "River Tam Sessions" (or whatever it was called) before Serenity came out.

Heck, if the nuTrek crew (and recently, the old Trek crew) will do commercials for outside products, doing a short tie in for film promotion should be easy.

CG? an opening scene set just after TUC? (don't know how it could fit into the movie though)

Re: Roberto Orci want both Shatner and Limoy in Star Trek 3

I hope this happens. Because seeing Shatner and Nimoy as Kirk and Spock once more, especially on the 50th anniversary, is about the only thing I'd have to look forward to with this next nuTrek nightmare...
