Roberto Orci Not Directing Trek XIII

Why is it arrogance ? Would a doctor pointing out "that's why I'm a doctor and you're not" when discussing your health be arrogant ?

Why is it arrogance ? Would a doctor pointing out "that's why I'm a doctor and you're not" when discussing your health be arrogant ?
Yes. It's taking an unnecessarily superior attitude when different, more humble, words would work better in the overall treatment of the patient to invite cooperation instead of rebellion. The doctor, if he were truly interested in your physical and mental health, should not be raising your blood pressure with antagonism.

But like we've seen for the last six years, whatever stance these folks take people are going to rebel. If people are just going to be nasty regardless, then Orci may as well call it like it is.

Does it help?

Does it matter?

At what point does fans being assholes stop being acceptable? People tweeting death threats over comic books, Damon Lindelof getting called a f****t on Facebook on his birthday, six years of constant blasting of the Bad Robot people over a couple of movies people take way too seriously. Why aren't they allowed to defend themselves? What makes fans so special that they can harass these people non-stop with no blowback?

The way the dweebs at Trek movie behave, Orci's shown a lot of patience and restraint.

In fact there are myriad reasons that those "critics" aren't making movies and they're frequently on display over there.

No one owes that entitled little gaggle a thing, least of all unmerited respect.

It's never acceptable. We do it anyway.

Your paragraph reminds me of all ongoing strife: Unions and business, Britain and the IRA, Isreal and Palestine, ad nauseum where the ultimate blame is lost to historical amnesia... Orci chose his response. It can certainly be defended by what has come before, as you point out. But it doesn't help.

Sounds like your simply shifting blame for all of this. Fans blast non-stop for years, the creators fires back once or twice, so it's the creators fault.

Amen. They attack and nit-pick and whine, and nary a one of them could do any better, and certainly could not survive in the world of Hollywood.
I would say that Orci's response was measured and calm, all things considered. If it had been me, there would have been some very choice additions to that comment.

Sorry I don't subscribe to that. I'm a computer programmer. I know more about computer programming than people who have never programmed. Same with doctors and movie directors in their respective fields. It might be blunt, but it's true. I'm not sure that passes the arrogance Threshold.

Now apparently Orci won't even write the movie. Sounds a bit late for that 2016 release.

Yes, absolutely.

And it, again, is the reason why I make movies and you don’t.

Wow, I find his arrogance extremely amusing. And cocky, given that he was just fired from his first major directing job over "creative differences". I guess that's the reason someone else directs movies, and he doesn't.

I'm not here to defend Orci, but this is starting to feel like a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. And by that I mean I've heard many complaints about other franchises which ultimately translate to people not deriving the intended enjoyment from prequels since they know how things will turn out in the end. Orci's just defending the decision to not do a prequel and to instead create an "anything can happen" atmosphere.

( On the other hand, we can tell they're not going to do something radical like permanently killing off Kirk, so it's not really "anything can happen", but at least they have a free hand. )

Yes, if he was a shitty doctor.

The guy helped make Transformers 2, Cowboys and Aliens and Amazing Spider-Man 2.

This isn't something I would be bragging about.

He doesn't sound like the sharpest tool in the shed.

It's the reason others direct movies and he doesn't.

Orci lost his cool again (understandable considering he was systematically pushed off Trek 3) and let the fans get to him.

After he settles down he'll apologize - like he did last time.

Unless something else has changed, Orci is still attached to Trek. Creative differences or no, that's a payday few of us will ever see.

Meyer wrote the script for TWOK in 12 days.
Plenty of time for a February start.

The main script may be 90% done for all we know. Orci's creative differences with Paramount could be as little as something like him insisting on Shatner being in it or the whole thing having to be GuardiansOfTheGalaxified : shudder

Correct. We have no idea how much of the script is done, and honestly folks... if the script needs to be written quickly, it can be written quickly, and there is no reason to assume that a script written relatively quickly is going to be lower in quality than one written with a quill pen on parchment over the course of three new moons.

Except all of those are about relevant and important things, while the thing with Orci is fans bashing a guy becuase of their views on a 58 year old television/movie franchise.

Most of those are things that have far reaching consequences for a lot of people and the other is nerds taking a tv show too seriously.

This all reminds me of Syndrome from "The Incredibles."
He was convinced that he was owed something because he chose to be a fan of Mr. Incredible, and went completely around the bend when he was "disrespected."
